I'm really sorry

Of course BlackIce has to be the spoil sport. :lol I was hoping this thread would go longer with nobody mentioning it so the legend of the 122 mph ticket could grow.

Details in a minute.

Ohhh yes.... Toelle Utah... A rock throw away from US Army Dugway Proving Grounds, I know the place very well. BTW, that distinctive smell in the air is the byproduct of Biological & Chemical weapons being cooked and incinerated.

Did you happen to stop by the house on the other side of the pass where all the 30's 40's & 50's car are piled up rotting away in the sun?

BTW, West bound would be Reno NV....

So here's the story. Again, for the third straight year, I had the fastest car at the Utah Fast Pass. The Police issued me a framed "Golden Ticket" as guy who hauls the most ass. It's the event that gained notoriety when an Enzo was crashed near 200 mph and scattered all over 1/4 mile of road five years ago. Luckily the driver lived. Now the "ticket" they issue is for your speed on the front straight of the full course at Miller Motorsports Park. I managed to get it up to 177 mph, though I was about to go at least 4-5 mph faster the next lap before the whole track got black flagged when a Viper ran out of gas. Boo.

Camilo, Jason Heffner, PeakCompletions and myself attended this year. It was great as usual. There are only 43 entrants and they limit the participants to essentially what the prior year's total was, giving existing participants first dibs. Not many people don't make it back. I will be there for my fourth year next year. Entry is steep at $6k, but much of that is charity and knowing what event tabs can run, it's well worth it. Utah has amazing scenery, the UHP police that participate with us are great, and Miller Motorsports Park is the best facility for the GT in the country. I told Ray and Heffner they just had to get there once and they'd know what I meant. Now, Heffner and I are seriously considering leaving my GT and his R8 there year round, splitting a garage. It's that awesome. The entire Miller clan (and believe me, there are many of them) are just great people, they run a first class facility, and they are all serious car fanatics. Roger Miller had Jason out earlier this summer to TT his Audi R8.

I assisted Jason in putting a pulley and tune on Greg Miller's GT (and by assisting, I mainly mean sat there and looked pretty), so that was fun. Camilo and I went out to the Salt Flats and got some killer pictures. I rolled out onto the flats at about 2 mph and then booked it to the first car wash I could find as soon as the pics were taken. And then I found the next car wash after that and washed it again. :lol

Not going to lie, I'd driven my car about 200 miles all year before the 1,000 I put on it on this trip. That tripped 20,000 miles on the odometer. You forget how ridiculously awesome the GT is unless you drive the shit out of it. And it's really awesome with an extra 400rwhp. I drove a stock GT, a pulley/tune GT and my own TT GT on the trip. Doesn't matter what the configuration is, it's just the best car. When Camilo and I booked it to the Salt Flats, rolling along with another GT at 120 mph is just the prettiest sight in all the world. It's so gorgeous, and at the same time so pissed off from that rear 3/4 angle. Drool. We just now got back home, so I'll post some pics tomorrow.

I'm so jealous. I spent my weekend working. That REALLY sounds like fun. Can you slide me in next year??

Chip

Oh, now I get it about the ticket. I thought the printed version was a little strange. I didn't think they had printers in the cars.

The Millers are really first class. It was a sad day when Larry H. passed away. There was fear that the trading of the cars between the Shelby American Museum in Boulder and the collection at MMS in Salt Lake would cease, but Greg assured me that it would continue. I visit the Boulder site at least 4 or 5 times a year and am due for a return trip. The MMS location is only open for tours when the track is open, but Greg gave me his card and assured me he would open.

Anyway, great story.

Now when you get a real noone will believe it :)

Geez Dave, what a story....I'm still drooling over your experience.
I've heard great things about that facility and as you say, a great configuration for our GTs.
Thanks for sharing.

There's a GT40 Mk III in the museum at MMS, and one of my favorite posters...

By the way, the picture of the George Follmer's '69 Boss 302 behind the Mk III is currently owned and driven by Vic Edelbrock, and can be seen a quite a few vintage car races. http://www.streetlegaltv.com/forum/muscle-cars-you-should-know-69-a-5936.html

Great shot Ralphie...I believe the Petersen Museum owns the same model GT40, I've seen it twice, maybe a shade lighter than this paint, a bit more silver perhaps.
Looking forward to seeing the #16 TA Boss run this weekend at Monterey. I was here when Edelbrock bought the car at auction, and drove it the next day at the track.
It was 2003 or 2004. Got some great up close photos of the car that day and of Vic and George talking while standing next to it.

Sure to give some people a heart attack...

So you can just go out to the flats and play? Somehow it doesn't seem that simple.

Some of Larry's collection that have been at the Shelby American Collection:

GT40 Mk 1 P/1021. The history placard had it being vintage raced by in th1 1966 season, and more recently by Bill Murray between 1997 and 2007 and taking 1st or 2nd in it's class every time
