Well, it has been 16 days since I have had a soda. All I have been drinking is water or lemonade. I thought it would be harder, but so far, it has been pretty easy.
My wife says I lost a little belly, but I do not see it. I used to drink at least 9 cokes a day.
How many of you guys have given up soda, or don't drink it?

I knocked it off a year or two ago...but, I only drank one or two here & there anyway.
And I went the lemonade, ice water, or cranberry juice route!
They say drinking "x" number of cokes per week can put 15 lbs on ya per year. (God only knows about the diabetes factor.)

I consider it Free Horsepower.:banana

Well done my friend! Hope you keep it up! :thumbsup You're not the only addict! I'm giving up Diet Pepsi as one of my New Year's resolutions. Coffee in college, soda after college... I already stocked up on bottled water & a variety of juice. :banana Of course, I still have 5 hrs 15 minutes left to drink all I want.:lol

Sugar................

Fact - 16 teaspoons of sugar in a 12 oz. can of Coke/Pepsi/etc.

Everytime I cut sugar (cookies, cake, pie, and ice cream) outta my diet, my cholesterol goes down, my triglycerides go down and I lose weight. Ever notice how really fat people are always buyin' the 52 oz. big gulps at the 7/11???

A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!! And for me, a GT in 2007!!!!!

I must be one lucky girl then! I eat lots of sugar & lots of carbs. I weigh less than I did in high school & I have borderline low cholesterol. But... I still need to give up soda... Goal for 2007 is to stay healthy & fit...and remember to take my daily iron pill (right BonEy?). :wink

Good luck on getting that GT!!!!

The real danger in digesting that much sugar is the risk of becoming a Diabetic with all its attending problems. A glucose blood test should be done once a year to keep track of where you are if you are digesting high amounts of sugar.
When the body digests food, it converts that food to blood sugar or glucose. As levels of glucose rise, this signals the pancreas to release the hormone insulin. Insulin “unlocks” the body’s cells, allowing glucose to enter and be converted to energy. Diabetes is a disease in which the body either does not produce insulin or does not use it properly. When glucose builds up in the blood instead of going into cells, it can starve cells for energy. Over time, high glucose levels may damage organs and body systems, including the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart.

Never Touch The Stuff

Don't do the soda thing, and never have.:frown

Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.:ack

Now BEER, on the other hand, that would be tough to give up.:cheers

Happy New Year To All !!:thumbsup :cheers :thumbsup

Fred

I cut back from like 100 gallons of coke or dr. pepper a day (ok six - eight a day) to one a day and then mostly water, gatorade, juice, or similar.

I can say though thank God for ginger ale ... no caffiene.... but still coke enough .... it must be the methadone of the soda world:biggrin

happy new years

:biggrin I'm with you Fred. This year I'm going to giev up the "quantity" brands (Miller Lite, Coor Light etc.) and move more into the quality brands. Maybe this way I can have my cake and eat it to ie. loose weight while enjoying the beer... just a thought. Might have to start that exercise thing:bored

BTW - Isn't it funny that bottled water costs twice what a gallaon of gas in the US costs. Who'd ever thunk it.

Talk to ya soon Fred. This year ended GREAT!

Great product marketing a work. Hell 80%+ of the stuff I buy nobody really needs. This is what makes our economy work. I often have people telling me, "you don't need this." I politely tell them they are correct, but in the US and the rest of the G8, most items that are bought today are based on wants, not needs. I think the FGT clearly falls into this category.

I'll drink to that. I don't drink much, but today is one of the rare exceptions.

A happy new year to all, especially those fortunate enough to own one or more GTs.

Can you believe that some of the canned fruit drinks are even worse. I bought a case, and when I read the can, it was 25% worse than Coke!:eek

I actually feel no ill effects so far. I am not craving it like I thought I would.
I do actually feel a little healthier. I am going to try to lose 20 pounds so I dont have to buy the Whipple!:lol

Cut the juice down with 50% water .... thats what my Doctor told me when I hit him with what you mentioned ... he stated "drink whole juice drinks and cut it down with water so your body can absorb the things it needs"
It works
