thanks Dave, I was about to clarify that point. :thumbsup

For a minute there, he had me thinking I was nuts. I was thinking that damn whipple was the most expensive 2000 rpm mod in history. :lol

For those that don't want to figure it out, the Whipple passes the 2.7" HP wise at about 3600 rpm, and by 5250 it's making around ~150 rwhp more. As for tq, the Whipple surpasses the 2.7 at about the same point, and is making ~120rwtq more by 4500rpm. :eek That's a MOUNTAIN of torque.

I will have to let you drive my car next time we cross paths :thumbsup

The FRPP parts car was supposed to have it on 2 weeks after the Rally, so that was my plan to get a drive with it. As far as I know, it's still not on it! Arg!

I'll definitely take you up on the offer. I'd like to road course the car a few times next year before I decide whether or not to get the big one. Obviously the car has more than enough power as is, but having seen first hand the 2.7" is good for 135mph in the 1/4(i'm already used to the power to the point it feels slow), I'm tempted to find out what ~150rwhp more is worth. :eek

My bad, sorry for my misreading.

No problem. It's hard to read because the colors are so very close to each other...

Ah, the dreaded "Boost Burnout"! :biggrin Know it well!

Do you think there is a bit more power to be had by leaning the 2.7 pulley A/F ratio tune? The Whipple is running approximately 10% leaner over most of the RPM range.

I think the 3.3 upgrade is awesome. For almost 6 months I researched putting a Lysholm 3.3 on my car. JDM had a Lysholm 3.3 set up with an intake manifold, and I even looked at dual 2.3(they use this set up on boats). So I am very interested and excited by your results.

I have a problem that I like to extend the limits of things, often times too much. I had spoken to Dustin 8 or 9 months ago and he thought that 900 hP was possible with higher octane.

Has anybody talked to him about higher hp?

If you can get 750 with 91, you'll certainly be able to get a big chunk more HP running 110 or C-16...

Definitely. I think the Heffner tune is on the safe side, which I'm a fan of :lol If you aren't putting the car on the dyno to monitor as changes in the A/F are made, I'd say it's resposible to err slightly on the safe side.

Boys, a 'little birdie' at Ford told me they are working on an upgrade to achieve 700+HP. IF they do finally offer it - no guarantees - they are also working on a plan to extend the engine warranty if the install is done by a Ford technician. Once again the private market guys push the envelope and we all benefit. Let's see what finally materializes but I like this whole idea so far... :biggrin

Keep us posted. This would be awesome!!!

Maybe someone can get subtlely obtain more details at the Ford Show on Dec. 2nd.

I'd be willing to bet heavy on Ford never offering any "warrantied" performance upgrade. There's no precedent. I'm also not much into waiting for anything from FRPP anyways. It's not like a pulley is complicated so why wait...

Can't be done and be smog legal and sound compliant. Ok for oiff the road but not street legal. Your bird is smoking some strange stuff :bs

Don't shoot the messenger!

Why would a HP upgrade kit installed by a Ford dealer be any different than if I had them install catless headers? Plus why would HP upgrades made by a Ford dealer be more taboo than if done by an aftermarket tuner or manufacturer? Please explain why THEY would have to worry about sound limitations - is that a California thing? It would be the car owner's liability not Ford's or the tuners', wouldn't it?

Also, why would the smog numbers be afffected on a HP upgrade? The car should be running more efficiently than stock; for one thing they are set too rich from the factory anyway.
Please elucidate.

Because a richer mixture results in lower combustion temperatures which in turn reduces NOx emissions. It's a delicate balance around the perfect (stoichimetric) air/fuel mixture.

Okay thanks Joe - right now I'm getting 10 - 12 mpg. So if I buy an SCT Tuner from a good guy like Torrie to lean the car out and get good mileage, I'm told I will also increase the efficiency of the motor slightly. IOW a slight HP gain there. Is that going to really hurt the emission numbers to where the car is illegal? Meanwhile I'm burning much more fuel in the stock setting.

If you look at most of the FRPP stuff, it's says "Not street legal - Off Road only". At least that's the case with the headers, etc. Of course, they know nobody follows that.

Well aware of that. Still my question stands - Bony said "can't be done". I'm just asking why not, when everyone else is doing it.

I was told the Ford program would involve 700+. I may be missing something at this huge site, but I can't recall seeing numbers above 640 or so without doing more than a pulley change. True?
