30 years is a long time away but it will probably mark the end of personalized transportation.http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/auto...-industry-as-we-know-it/ar-BBqcDuc?li=BBnbfcL

Wow, does that mean we just send cars onto the track at Le Mans and they just drive themselves around the track while everyone watches? Some cars will be programmed to crash. Some will crash along the way, someone will lose a tire and fly into the stands.

I think this all has about as much a chance of happening as the Star Trek episode where the computers run the war between the planets and casualties that are in the area of the simulated "hit" report to the disintegration station.

It's not a question if it's going to happen the only question is when.

..and 'old ' cars that a person needs to actually drive , will be declared illegal. They will go the way of the 100 Watt incandescent light bulb.

So, I recommend that we all 'drive the hell' out of our cars for the next 20 years . Because in 25 years, they will all need to be turned in for 'scrap and shredding.' Driving a car will be illegal.
Our 2005/2006 Ford GT's will be worth about $1000.00 in reclaimed materials (mostly aluminum) and the new 2017 FGTs worth even less since there is less aluminum and more carbon fiber.

Private race track.

They will invent teleportation. All the riff-raff who shouldn't be driving anyway, too lazy to drive themselves, or just needing to get there,. will "beam me elsewhere, Scotty" The roads will be empty. Except for us. And we all lived happily ever after.

It's my fantasy, leave me alone.

Just the idea of the gubmunt being in control/running that whole show should give anyone pause for thought.

An autonomous road system by its very nature would create sooooo many opportunities for abuse of power it boggles the mind... :willy

Sounds good to me !!

That will happen sometime in the future. I see a future where the gov controls how all the cars are moving on the road, kind of like a line of train cars going down the roads. Doing that will allow tighter packing and higher speeds with a gov operated network controlling speeds, lane changing and merging, etc. The only thing that will stop it is worse yet, economic collapse and or war.

Dangers of software bugs, or hackers could bring havoc to our entire ground transportation system!

As for what a FGT or the new FGT will be worth, ask yourself what the top of the line horse drawn buggy is worth today.

When you hear "We're from the government, we're here to help you" a great orator once said to go run and hide.

What does it matter?? we'll all be long gone when it happens and all our cars will be in garages in Dubai !

Amen!

The Star Trek reboot had a 67? Vert corvette on a back road hauling ass. I think we are good.

Anyone who's been through a natural disaster will tell you that. During our 2013 floods FEMA showed up and uttered those very words. The situation quickly turned from "All the help we needed" into "All the help we could stand". Over two years later people are still afraid to touch their houses in the flooded areas (even those not officially in the 100 year flood zone) lest it not be right for FEMA.
