Anyone thought of touching up the stripes on the door to say FORD GT40 instead of FORD GT? I'm getting tired of explaining to everyone including other car guys what this car is. When I tell them it is a modern GT40 they move on. I know Ford doesn't own the name, but it is probably like copying cds for yourself. As long as you are not raking in tons of cash doing it you can probably get away with it.

Bureaucracy sucks

Bureaucracy sucks.

Its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Actually the original GT-40's original name is Ford GT not Ford GT-40.

Bullitt, someone has posted about new stripes saying Ford GT40 here in the past with pictures. Maybe Rocman? They have a source for the stripes. It's cold and rainy here and ready to snow.

No Winter Here

Dr. Frank,
We decided to just cancel winter down here this year being it only lasts for a few days anyways.:thumbsup
DBTGT & I are going to run 'em in Dallas this weekend, wish you were here.:banana
I guess we will just have to have a beer for you [any excuse works well for us].:cheers
Red GTs have the darnest situations to deal with.:lol

"Silver":
YOU TOO????!
I've totally given up on 'being specific' & I just tell 'em it's a GT40. 'Takes less time & effort - and most people grasp that w/o further explaination. (Krymuny... Ferrari or Lambo pilots sure have it made in THIS area by comparison, don't they?)
It's absolutely amazing, though, how many Ford - FORD! - service/parts counter guys think I'm referring to a Mustang when I order something. So now I just tell 'em, " Ford GT. As in Ferrari slayer. As in 205mph.", and that clears up the mud in the pond for 'em. ( I would add "LeMans" ... if I thought they might have any idea what THAT was about.)
Ford could have saved us all a lot of trouble if they'd just called the darn thing the "GT43" in the first place and put THAT on the side stripes! (It's 43.3" [or so] tall, "ain't" it?)
I'm sure glad I'm perfeckt.

GT44 would have worked fine, too.

Enzo:
Ya. But, Geeee Teeee Forty Threee has a ring to it that GT44 doesn't! :rofl
( "GT44" would look "more gooder" on the car though.)

I live in Staten Island NY, and when i drive the GT and stop at a light, most people ask me what is it? when I reply GT..they huuuuuuuu???? and the next question is who makes it? I say Ford.....a Ford? no way......remaining there with their mouth wide open.............I think most people are expecting me to say it's a Ferrari, or Lambo...or Mazzaratti (as some call them)...when they find out it's a Ford GT they just can't believe it........but regardless, their thumbs go up and make a wowwwwwwwwwwwww comment...and of course a BIG GREAT SMILE................

I had my GT at a car show recently and had a jerk go ballistic on me when he looked at the entry card that had GT40 printed on it. From now on it will be GT for the "politically correct" and GT40 for the "politically incorrect". :frown

Gino:
You should see the looks on some people's faces when they ask me, "What's IS that - a Ferrari?", and I tell 'em, "No. It's a Ferrari eater." :banana ...To look at 'em, you'd think they had suddenly found themselves in the presence of God!

Maybe it's different in the UK! There's so few of them but everyone seems to know what it is - well, everybody that matters! :biggrin

If I called mine a GT40, people would think it's a fibreglass replica kit car.

MT - someone should ask those guys that have lowered their cars (are you there Rocman?!!) how tall they are now. Might be pretty close to 40 :wink

Ferrari Eater - I like that. Good answer :thumbsup

I usually am not looking fo a conversation with someone, so I leave it as "it is just a Ford"

Here's one way to do it...

That is exactly how the stripes were originally designed as per my FMC concept brochures & photos. Did you have these made?

Wasn't me, but I do have a vinyl cutter, so I can make my own stickers.
The problem is that my machine goes crazy sometimes and does not cut correctly.
I will try using is on another computer. If I can get it working correctly, I will come up with some decals for you guys.

Sounds good ROCMAN. Can you salvage the original stripes in the process?

I am sure there would be a way. The only thing would be buying vinyl that matched. I will look into it.
I do know there is a company that makes them. I am sure I remember someone else here getting them. Abolfaz, do you know?
