Okay, I have had some correspondence with TallCarGuy about the possibility of another GT school happening in the near future for the selfish reason that I really want to do this :biggrin. He is very interested in doing this again and I offered to throw this thread up to get the ball rolling and see if there is enough of us interested to make it happen. If you are a newer member and or are not sure what the GT school is click on this link:

This is ENZO BTR’s article on his great experience at the GT school that will tell you all you need to know about the experience. Here are the nuts and bolts facts.

There needs to be a minimum of six students and there can be a max of eight. That gives everybody tons of track time and with an Instructor to Student ratio of one for every two, you also get a lot of training in a short time. All this comes at a price. The School fee is $2,000.00 per student. The day starts at Willow Springs on the BIG track at 8:00 AM and we are all done by 5:00 PM, and it is a really full day of training.

The chief instructor is Neil Hannemann, the chief engineer of the Ford GT program, and a 4 time World Challenge Champion. Everybody spends some quality time with Neil.

They also offer, for students only, a wheel and tire deal of four Factory Ford Six Spoke BBS cast wheels with factory size Hoosier RS6 tires mounted and balanced for $3,500.00 a set.

With the end of the year and the holidays coming up I figured February would be a good time to shoot for this to happen. That gives all of us plenty of lead time to make plans accordingly. TallCarGuy is going to check on available dates for that month. I saw what happened when Stunts tried to organize a track day and it seems difficult to get everyone moving in the same direction. Once we get enough interested people to book the event and a suitable date a $500 deposit would be required to hold your spot. This would only be refunded if the school were to be canceled. If you change your mind after making the deposit or your schedule changes you would lose your deposit unless you can find someone to take your slot. This seems fair to me. If you are interested, be sure before you make the deposit. TallCarGuy would need six deposits in hand before booking the date/event. I am not sure how the wheel purchase would work, but for those interested in that I would get additional information on how they would want to handle payment for that. This will most likely be a weekday event because that is when it is easiest to book the Big Track.

I am very interested in doing this and I hope some of the rest of you are as well. If you have any questions I have not addressed in this post just throw them up on the thread or send me a PM. This thread will be the unofficial clearinghouse for questions and interest in this event to see if it gets past the talking stage. I am glad the GT school is being considered again and would love to see it happen. To me his sounds like a great way to start 2009. :thumbsup

Sky, that sounds like a GREAT plan!! I'm going to see about arranging transport with a buddy of mine and if that's a go, then we'll both be in. I don't know if we'd bring down one car or two (depends on transport), but I'll check with him and PM you a firm yes or a soft no within the week.

Oh yeah, forgot about the tire wheel package. While that sounds like an amazing deal, I think I'd rather wear out my existing tires, put Hoosiers on those rims and get a different set of 20/21's for the street. OTOH, I would happily purchase them on behalf of another forum member if they wanted them (assuming that's allowed, and assuming that we're able to make it down).

Date dependent, I am interested in the school.
I am not interested in the tire-wheel package.

I'm in, as long as it is after 11/5!

Did the TallCarGuy say how he did at the race he was preparing for a couple of week ago?

Ed

Ed,

The race I was preparing for was the Silver State Classic Challenge. I won the Unlimited Class, for the second year in row, at an average speed of just over 198 MPH for the ninety mile course. Maybe next year, at the May event (The Nevada Open Road Challenge) I'll finally break the 200 MPH average speed barrier.

You will definitely be needing an opportunity to exercise the GT in February knowing Edmonton's winter weather. :lol Your gal would be happy for a trip to Cali.

I am not doing the wheel set-up either. I will be using the ones that I have. I think if you got the wheels they would be expecting you to use them on the track day. Glad to see the interest. 4-5 soft yes answers before noon. I hope this works out. Would be my first GT event with fellow owners. :thumbsup

I have interest. Any idea on cost to transport a GT from Toronto to Willow Springs. Maybe part way to Edmonton and then piggy back on Superfly's.

I contacted Paul's shop and he's back in town on Wed. He bought a 5 or 6 car transport specifically to take cars down to the US tracks. In fact he's currently in the US on just such a trip. I'll ask him when he's back. I understand that Trent (Not 4N) in Calgary also has a trailer and maybe he'd be interested too. I don't know how big Trent's trailer is though.

My buddy Kev and I are both very keen on this, date dependent (as I have my kids on alternate weeks).

Yeehaw, Canucks (BONY, Ed and Sky - all honorary Canucks :biggrin) invade Willow Springs!! BONY, I think sometime ago I may have promised you some Crown Royal. :cheers

Richard,

Congrats on your winning! Averaging over 198mph, that's quite impressive.

As for the GT School, I'm very much looking forward to it. In light of our previous discussions, it would be great to have an agenda distributed to firm up interest. As discussed, my thought is that normall track events (i.e., the typical HPDEs) no doubt do improve driving skills and for the participants to learn the proper lines, braking zone, turn-in, apex, track-out skills, but these skills can be learned/developed in any HPDE events. However, normal HPDE events are not condusive to learn car-controls, for example, learning the car/tires' adhesion limits and how to "catch" the tail when it starts to step out like in a skid pad set up..... Therefore, these are the particular skills/exercises that would be GREAT if theay are part of the agenda. As such, a combo of skid pad/car control training and track time would great. Of course, this is only my opionion...:bow

Thx

Ed

Is this the deal I saw on TV last night called SuperCars exposed??????

The Supercars Exposed episodes are still re-runs from last year, but as far as I can tell, yes, that is the same GT school.

Okay, just an update list. So far we have the potential of:

1. skyrex
2. Superfly
3. Friend of Fly :biggrin (does he have a Forum handle?)
4. Bony
5. GTED
6. 06fordgt

which gives us the minimum requirements. Ice I couldn't tell if you wanted in or you were just agreeing with the previous post. If anyone else is interested keep posting. 2 slots available and it is likely someone will drop out. Not saying you guys aren't commited, or in need of being committed :willy :lol just saying that something usually pops up and someone has to bail. Also if there were enough maybe there could be 2 GT schools.....what can I say I am an optimist. :wink

Once TallCarGuy has potential February dates hopefully we can all agree on a day and have a killer time with our gals.

tpraceman.....there was a segment on the Speed channel about the GT school. I saw it on Youtube, but I can't find the link. That is probably what you saw. It looks great!!! Keep the interest coming guys. :cheers

what are the Feb dates? Where are they posted?

Don't want to get ahead of myself, as for timing, Nov, Dec, Jan and Mar are good months for me. Feb is bad, have board meetings from the little annoying thing called work....:bored

Ed

:bored people bailing already... just kidding. :biggrin

No dates posted yet. Just making a list of those who mentioned interest and keeping things fresh in our minds. I threw out February as a month because it is far enough away that I thought it would make it easier to get people in because no holiday conflicts and plenty of time to put it on the calendar. I am pretty flexible date wise, but I am semi-local. If the six of us have dates that work better, either e-mail me or post them. Like 'Fly mentioned he has every other week availability. If anyone else has preferences throw them up and lets see where it takes us. This thread is to try to make this easier for TallCarGuy as one of the reasons he expressed for not wanting to do the school was the hassle of getting all of the ships going in the same direction. I am just trying to help a little because I want to drive (and drive better). However like most things in life, I am not in charge. :wink I just have the time to check e-mail during the day and keep an eye on the thread. :lol

Majority rules on date once we have enough people (six, up to a max of eight) who can settle on a date that works for the group and TallCarGuy as it is his school and he has to arrange the instructors and track. But he does need the full six confirmed people before he tries to set the date that works for the group. We are definitely in the early stages of this thing and it may not work out. Just hopeful we can get one set-up because it sounds like a great time and great way to improve driving the GT. :cheers

Gentlepersons,

I am not ignoring you. I have been in touch with the track and they are being very vague about dates in 2009 right now. As soon as I get a call back from the "calendar person" I will post the available dates. My understanding is that, at least for a Feb. '09 date you can remove GTED from the list. Is that true?

Guess we are checking e-mail at the same time Richard. :lol If we need GTED for six and the group needs a different month that is okay with me. Just laying that out there.

Skyrex,

Thank you for trying to help out in putting this together!

I'm in for all the other months mentioned, except for Feb. Surely, we can get to a mutual date outside of Feb......:biggrin

Ed

Sky,

as for me, I'm alternate weeks which are currently (for example) THIS week. Fri to Fri. I have the young 'uns until the 3rd of Oct and then the 10-17 etc. In Feb this should be the first week to the 6th and then the 13th to the 20th. So I'd be free Feb 7-12 and 21-26. Or something like that. I have a hard enough time trying to figure this out, I'm not sure how you're going to do it :wink

My buddy, Kev, is free pretty much anytime.

EDIT - Feb is not set in stone for me. Whatever works. As long as my car is back to me by the end of March so I can drive it on the roads up here when the snow has all melted. :thumbsup I'll give you more accurate dates for Kev and I (and maybe spdemonjay) when TallCarGuy has some more track time feedback. :cheers
