The Desert Diamond Distillery:

Chip is trying to "milk" the machine for a quick taste...

What is hiding back there?

33.jpg

Buckets and buckets of 140 proof rum!

Mrs. Blue Moose wants a taste...or two.

Ralphie and others enjoy taste testing.

Gentlemen,

With my GT waiting for new turbos to arrive I pressed the little Shelby GT into service for this event. Today was a blast, I'm wiped out, and looking forward to tomorrow. Rich has put together a great event with a printed "Guide Book" that rocks. Cheers.

Looks like a great time. Thank you for sharing

Good times. With the Shelby GT and the Cobra as well as the GT's, it looks like it was an impromptu tribute drive to Carroll Shelby as well. I'm sure that's what any gearhead on the road would have thought and I'm sure ol Shel was looking at you and smiling.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Looks to be another wonderful GT event.

How much Rum can a GT hold?

I see Barry still has his "winter" tan.

Keep on enjoying yourselves.

"How much rum can a GT hold?" :biggrin I think Ralphie's the best person to answer that question Jeff.

We are all having a blast, and I have to say this is one of the most organized and fun GT cruises I've been on (and we still have a lot to do today). Rich has done an extraordinary job of putting this together. We saw a side to the Grand Canyon that most of us had no idea existed. "Get your kicks on Route 66." The drive along the Mother Road on Historic Route 66 was like something out of a movie. I wish I had seen what it was like in its heyday. A must see for any car fanatic!! The food has been great as well, and there are a number of stops with fun things to do and see along the way.

Although not planned that way, you are right, the ride was like a tribute to Carroll Shelby, and we toasted him at dinner. Looking forward to the second half today!! :thumbsup

A few more pictures...

Last night, we introduced a new (well, new to us) GT owner to Dani's (Bony's) favorite drink - the Makers Mark Manhattan. Someone forgot to tell Frank that it takes a little bit of getting used to. :biggrin

Ralphie has been having a few of our famous "gauge issues". Each time he starts up the car it is a mystery as to which gauges will be operational. One time everything works but the boost. The next, it's the fuel not working. Other times, they are all working (or all not working).

This morning, we drove to the Hualapai Mountain Resort. There was a friendly elk keeping watch over our GTs while we ate breakfast.

And the men were all in good spirits.

Funny. At what altitude do deer change into elk? :)

Bellies full, we took a group picture by the GTs as we got ready to embark on another adventurous day in AZ!

Chip got a little too comfortable... :lol

Thankfully, we decided to ditch the arts and crafts time for some old cars, and took a drove to Frank's place.

He has a gorgeous '67 Mustang Fastback, a '66 Mustang (Rich's favorite), and a bunch of old Fords, tractors, and other cars (and car parts) scattered decoratively throughout his yard.

More fun with cars at Frank's place...

John and Ralphie like the trucks.

70.jpg

Piccola liked the tractor.

73.jpg

And there was a '54 Oldsmobile.

We left there and headed up Sitgreaves Pass, which is a winding road ending in an incredible overlook of three states - CA, NV, and AZ.

Near the top, Chip and Rich were kind enough to point out 5 moving dots on the mountain. Upon a closer look, they were bighorn sheep, standing on a rock, posing for us.

Rich and Chip lead the pack on the way back down.

Steve and Frank follow behind in their blue and black GTs.
