One of my reverse light went out. Shop manuel says I have to replace the entire rear light assembly. 30 minutes of poking around and I find out that is not the case. I wonder what those tail lights cost?

While I was fiddling around in the car I accidentally hit the windshield wiper level. No biggie, except that the wiper did not return to a "parked" position. The intermediate and slow speeds did not work at all. Any ideas?

Fubar,

My wipers are doing exactly the same. High speed only and having trouble returning to park.

Larry

ps-Since I try not to drive in the rain I found it by accident.

Wipers on high means the hood is not shut tight...........

Mike is right, as always. The sensor that indicates "front bonnet closed" will cause the exact problem mentioned with the wipers.

thanks guys... I will double check that 1st thing tomorrow and report back.

FYI the tail lamps retail for over $800 USD each.

But the reverse light is a replaceable bulb, isn't it?

Yes, it is. The shop manual says to replace the entire assembly tho.

I had the same problem a few months ago (car was still under warranty). The bulb is replaceable, however, the entire assembly must be removed to do so and therein lies the problem (well documented on this site previously). Removal of the nuts that secure the taillight assembly essentially destroyes the plastic studs onto which the nuts are threaded. If I had to do it again (my nickel this time) I would attempt to remove the nuts without backing them off of the studs. I would do this with a Dremmel tool by very carefully cutting a relief into each nut and then carefully thread new nuts onto the same threads cut during the initial installation. Also, someone on this forum developed a well documented procedure to modify the tailalmp in a fashion that renders it reusable. Do a search.

It is possible to remove the metal box from the back of the taillamp in order to replace the bulb without removing the lamp - but it is quite difficult and requires double-jointed young fingers to do so.

That was pe2unia who instead of the stock post and nut mounted a set of nutset's in the light to use a standard bolt

Removal of the box is not impossible but does require a little blind faith. The top screw for the box is not visible and you must use a torx screw driver... just blindly back the screw out. Then the reverse bulb becomes easily accessible/replaceable. However the brake-ligt LEDs are not an option. If they go out it will cost you a new assembly.

By the way, I opened and re-closed the front bonnet and it solved the wiper problem.

Thanks guys.
