Goodyear has forsaken us

March 17th, I ordered 2 new rear tires from the local Goodyear tire store. Acutal Goodyear stores are hard to find, and the price was $200 less per tire than TireRack. I finally got a call today from the Goodyear guy. As of March 22, 2010, Goodyear has an exclusive agreement with TireRack to sell certain tires which includes all F1 Supercar. They'll refund my money, but won't honor the reciept that I paid in full on March 17th. Apparently we can't buy stock tires from anyone but TireRack.

Time to get the Bridgestones!

Wow! I though the huge price increase wasn't really an increase, but that the old price was lowered trying to move out the old inventory. Now that Tirerack is the exclusive vendor for the tires the sky is the limit! :ack

In Oct I bought some rear GYs from Tirerack at a very attractive price, but it was old stock, made in 2006.

OK, I checked Fubar's sticky. Bridgestone:

Front 255/40-18 RE050A
265/40-18 RE050A

Rear 345/35-19 RE050A Scuderia

I know ShesGotLegs put them on a while back and had his alignment altered to make them ride better. Does anyone know what he did? He hasn't posted in a while.

Mike Hocking, who is Terry's (Shegotlegs') service manager, has told me as follows:

"Hi Pro

Sorry for the delay here are the specs you asked for.

Front Camber -0.7
Front toe L/F -0.03 R/F-0.03
Rear Camber -1.5
Rear toe L/R 0.10 R/R 0.11

Terry drives his car and has put 10,000miles with no abnormal tire wear.

Thank you Superfly. If you see that dog Terry, tell him to chime in and also get on board for the next Rally.

Are you saying somebody actually got 10,000 miles out of a set of tires?

I've got 13k on the front and had about 11k on the rear before replacing them. Clearly I'm not driving her hard enough.

Frank, as of this morning Goodyear Wholesale in Kansas City shows to still have some, both front and rears.

If you'd like some help getting them give me a shout.

The GYs are trash (ride rough, noisy, poor traction, wear out quickly). Should only matter to those wanting to preserve 100% authenticity, and they probably won't need tires very often anyway!

FWIW - after putting about 3500 mi on Goodyears, and maybe 2500 mi on Bridgestones, I would highly recommend the Bridgestones.

Without changing the ride height, how does the car look with these tires (i.e. gap between the top of the tire and the lip of the fender)?
How is the rake effected (does the car nose up slightly?
Would lowering the car at the same time be recommended?
How is the speedo calibration effected?
The 255 size Bridgestones are each 3 lb. heavier than the stock GYs. That's a ton of rotating mass! How does this effect handling particularly high speed turn-in?

Thanks ..... joe

Nabbed pics from these threads, courtesy of SYCO GT and SKGT. Mounted Bridgestones @ stock ride height (I think) & stock wheels.

I changed my first set of rear Goodyears at ~4,500 miles. I probably could have reached 5,000 miles, but I replaced the tires when I replaced a cracked rear wheel. I have just under 4,000 miles on the current set of rear tires, and there is no way I'll make it to 5,000 miles.

The fronts are doing fine. I'll probably switch to Bridgestones after one more set of rear Goodyears.

I got 6200 miles on my 1st set of rears. If I stretched it could have gotten another 500-1000 miles on them, but I was heading to Mojave so "new" tires were needed.

I got 9K on my first rears and only changed becasue of the Rally. I have 15K on my fronts.

Jeff, I'll give you a call, but I think all the Goodyear stores must give up their tires to TireRack.

Terry, are the specs posted correct for the alignment changes? Can any Ford dealer dial these in?

I got about 10,000 miles out of my first set of Goodyears. I now have only 4,000 miles on my second set, but some significant track time also and they are getting a bit thin. It was my intention to wear these out quickly so that I could go to the Bridgestones for the next set. Skyrex really loves his Bridgestones and I would really like to give them a shot.

I switched to Bridgestones on the rear, left the GY on the front. Drives fine. I didn't change camber...
