GM cancels new V8

Gm called this week cancelling orders with us for new V8 tooling.
Due to the new 35mph cafe rule most all will be dropping the v8's so if you want a big v8 in a passenger car better get ready to pull the trigger.:frown

Was there a one of us who couldn't see this coming the INSTANT that std was passed by congress? (Not your contract cancellation[!] - the return of "Weenie" power plants.)

Their V6 is lighter, more economical and has decent performance. This has been rumored for months and was in the New York Times earlier.

I doubt if this means Cadillac won't continue with V8's....GM has plenty of powerful and efficient pushrod V8's in the works...the upcoming GEN V small block with direct injection, along w/ DOD, should have very entertaining power levels and acceptable fuel economy.

Somehow I have to believe that V8 will still be used in large sedans. I don't foresee BMW and MB using V6 in there larger cars. Does that mean the BMW and MB are just willing to pay fines for not meeting the cafe standards?

Strangley enough, Ricardo of England, a company that should be familiar to fGT owners, is responsible for the manufacture of a very sophisticated 400-plus horsepower 6 used most effectively in the TVR Sagaris, among other supercars.
Expect to see the TVR Sagaris in the U.S., legally, by year end.

It is not uncommon to see BMW 718s and MB S 1.8 s in the EU due to taxes and fuel costs. Only in america that almost all are delivered with v-8s .bored

I dont know but the manager that called said he beleives all V8 will be phased out soon. Or maybe he just felt a litle bad for canceling a big order which is going to hurt.

I kind of wondered why Lincoln on the MKS went to a high power V6 and next year is adding a Turbo Charged option.
