Fuel Filter Removal Question

I know how to unlock the coupling but to do that one must first remove the security clips. Seems easy enough but the part of the clip that sits up against the coupling just won't come out. I don't want to force it (bend it) but I see little alternative. Any suggestions?

This answer is going to suck. My mechanic had to cut the old filter out since the clip will not clear the connector. If the filter had a longer tube on each end it would have been simple.

For a definitive answer, I would contact Rich or Dennis.
