Fuel Cell


Mark i totally missed this thread, I have a full system i designed with a belt pump, tank, return system, fuel rails as im going to run e85 and e98 and make alot of power. It pretty trick the factory pumps feed into a 2.5 tank on the passenger side infront of the rear tire, Belt pump pulls out of that tank and feeds into rails and then the regulator is mounted on that tank and the fuel returns their. The tank @ some point will become over full so then there is a -10 line that returns back to the factory tank. Essentually the factory pumps will just freeflow into the tank. I made alum fitting that goes into the factory fuel line right before the filter and then it goes into a aftermarket filter before entering the new cell.

We're also doing a surge tank but mine is only around ~1.5 gallons I think since it's my old meth tank.

Are you guys using a mechanical pump too?
 
I'm still using the stock fuel pickups inside the tank, just removed the pumps. I'll post up some pictures soon. The kensler "tuff pump" fits on the oil pump just right. It sounds like we used the same location as I also used the oil pump cover as a mounting location. The original shaft is thick enough to support an end fitting that the fuel pump will bolt right up too.

sounds good, but the stock fuel pumps create a vacumm to make the fuel pickups work i believe so this is why i asked. So you guys removed the bearing @ the rear of the pump then because there is no material after that bearing. Mine will still have that bearing, along with a seal and then the new shaft will stick out the back of the billet rear cover.

I honestly dont know the engineering behind it Mark but the 1st reaction whenever I ask someone about it is "why would you mess with that on a street car?" I'm interested in your project.

I know Taylor had custom rails made. Using twin 80# Ford Injectors. As for the exact pump, I dont think he had narrowed it down but if I remember correctly, he was leaning towards Magnafuel.

Loud racecar fuel pumps are for racecars not $160,000 exotics:)

Taylor is smart though as the magnafuel electic pump is the quitest. I run them in everything i build other that this car. The belt pump im runnin is a magnafuel mechanical. Also its less draw on the battery besides the noise. plus it will never run out of fuel ever on one of these motors, where as with elec pump, they all have their limits. talk to ya soon

Is the raw billet piece anterior to the Kinsler pump part of the fuel pump assembly or is it a modified or new body piece of the oil pump? I read earlier how you will connect to the oil pump shaft, but am not clear on the physical connection to the oil pump body.

Yes, it is the back of the oil pump. Yes, it is a newly fabricated plate that allows the pump to be attached there. The actual connection to the oil pump shaft is yet another small piece of engineering. If you want more details I can put you in touch with the guy who designed it all.
 
Was it Brad Cauzillo at Kinsler? He has already helped me on a big Block EFI assembly.

You wouldn't have a picture of the newly fabbed plate without the pump on it would you? :thumbsup
 
Shawn Fischer is the mastermind behind it. He connected the dots on the GTs technical data and formulated a plan. Kinsler was the first link. Shawn spoke with Kinsler directly and then Fischer spoke with the supplier for the GTs fuel cell and got their fuel movement strategies (really cool stuff happens inside the tank... jet pumps and surge/vapor tanks, no need for external stuff if you utilize the stock GTs internal fuel tank plumbing). The last step will be to reroute the blow-by port and then tune it (with any luck I will have a new air intake soon too... hint, hint... Rich... Dennis).

'Fish' is pretty good about taking pictures along the way so I will see if he has some more of the plate but if you want one I would just call his shop.
