Got a flashing cel today and loss of power in 6 gear, o.k. in lower gears. Code reader shows no hard codes. Do I need to check and count flashing cel?

I suspect a coil going bad.

Do you have gas in the tank? Fools me every time I see that light.

Checked the plugs,o.k., checked the coil primary ohms, got.7 on all eight. Put everything back together and ran great. I guess it's gonna be watch and wait.

Just to update, new optima installed just prior to event. Reads 13.8V at idle.

Usually a flashing CEL is a warning that you have unburned fuel going into the catalytic converter and it will soon overheat and destroy itself. It is usually a coil failure and sometimes the coil shorting out, takes out the coil driver in the PCM. This is one of the very few reasons to change a PCM.

Took the car for a 20Mi. ride, no codes no misfires, all was fine. I suspect the car getting used to new battery.

Flashing cel came back, turned steady yellow and finally showed code P0304. Swapped coil 3 and 4 will see if I get a P0303. Anyone have a recomendation for a good replacement coil?
