I just sold my 2003 NSX and am looking to buy a Ford GT. I want to get some guidance on what to consider when looking at these cars. Also what issues should I look for and factory fixes? I not looking for a collector car, I am looking for a reasonable priced car that I can enjoy and drive during the summer months. Maybe even do a track event or two per year. Thanks.

There are many of us here that have or had NSX's, there's much information already here on what to look for. No matter what you do, get a PPI by someone that knows the cars, or deal with someone like Shelby who's got a reputation you can rely on, for fair and accurate representations. You might regret selling the NSX, but you won't regret getting a GT!!!!

Regarding the "PPI", here are some recommendations listed by "RALPHIE" a while back:

"Rich & Denis - "The GT Guy," just south of Detroit in South Rockford, Michigan
Shelby Smith - "Elite Motors," Jonesboro, Arkansas
Rich Roback - "Invisible Touch Enterprises," Kingman, Arizona
Bill Knobloch aka "Shadowman" - "Discovery Automotive," Placerville, California
Kendall Pond aka "nota4re" - "Cooltech, LLC," Newhall, California

Plus the Hennessey Dealerships in Sealy, Texas and Lake Forest, California, and Heffner Performance in Sarasota, Florida. Perhaps Kip Ewing in Royal Oak, Michigan."

You won't have to concern yourself with "what to look for" (in the sense I think you mean the question) if you have an expert check out the car you want to buy.

I would add: Don't accept as 'gospel' any info "Car Fax" (or whomever) gives you. Many GTs have undergone various degrees of repair that just don't show up on reports anywhere. That's the main reason a PPI has been suggested.

EP, What's a PPI? I googled it and it came back with Producer Price Index (PPI), Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI), etc., etc., but nothing that fitted a FGT maintenance search.

What Jeff said!

'Apologies. I should have defined it...'darn near did too, but decided everyone probably knows what it means these days. You know what "they" say about assuming! I just proved that ole adage right again!

I'm bad, sorry, I like EP assumed everyone knows PPI, but unlike EP, I get great pleasure putting lots of miles on my GT
:dead:

As time goes on and GTs age , buyers need to be more and more careful. The good news is Ford for the most part, got it right the first time. Also , these cars are not hard to work on. I have 10k miles on one of mine and drives like it did on day 1. Check out folks like Jeff and Ralphie who drive them like they are daily drivers and have had great experiences with no problems.

My buying experience is limited because all 3 of mine came from Shelby. There are at least 3 good GT sellers I know of but in my experience Shelby stands behind his inventory almost as if it was under warranty. He won't disappear after the sale.

Boy howdy. More and more GT's turning out to be something different than what they are represented. Be very, very, careful. We can help you if you find a car over here on the left coast.

Deal with Shelby! You might pay a little more (or maybe not), but you will get a car with no stories and no surprises. He is an honest, straight shooter and he describes the car accurately so that when you get it, you wont be disappointed. If he doesn't have what you want, he will find it. These FGTs are such wonderful cars! I have had mine for about a month and I just love it.

Re issues/factory fixes. You should see that the half shaft bolts were replaced. These failed on some GTs and should have been replaced under a voluntary recall. If there is no documentation, you can visually check the bolts. If the bolts were replaced the white painted index marks won't be aligned.
