I had my car at the track this weekend with ambient temp about 60F. I was doing about 15 minute circuits and engine temp was about 240F. Is this normal to be this high?

Probably not. Lots of discussion on the Forum about this in the past Do you have the stock muffler and a trans cooler?

What RPM's were you running?

1. Check your radiator fins and make sure they are clean and not smashed. (One member here actually had smashed fins - allegedly from the factory??)

2. If you have an '05, you may have an extra protective grill in the nose of the car. On later '05's and on all 2006's Ford elected not to add this additional grill citing better air flow without it.

3. Check your radiator fluid level when the car is cold. Top-off as needed.

4. Check your engine oil by pulling and reading dip stick with the car warm and within 1 minute of having turned it off. Top-off as needed.

5. If you're not already running with a transaxle cooler, you should add one. (I have them in stock, hint, hint.) With my design, in addition to the added cooling with a heat exchanger, transaxle fluid capacity is increased 20% - further increasing cooling capacity.

6. Finally, in track testing Accufab found that the huge flow capability of the water pump would actually suck the radiator hoses closed at high RPMS. Accufab has solved the problem with some stainless wire springs that must be installed (pain in the ass) within the effected hoses. You can get directly from Accufab or I can source for you.

The air inlet has a tendency to collapse as well. Accufab and Analogdesigner both offer stiffeners, just different approaches. (Viagra won't work according to Bony).

Note to self. Self, stay the hell away from fjpikul & Bony when the topic of Viagra & Stiffners come up in the same sentence.:ack:ack:ack

The water pump is VERY efficient - search for threads involving collapsed water hose coming back from the radiator. Stiffening springs in the hoses may help.

I "fixed" all of that... (borla exhaust, trans cooler, Accufab inlet "support" and radiator hose springs. She still runs hot.

I think this is the problem. When I am on the track I keep the RPMs in the upper atmosphere and this car doesn't really need that. Try using the torque more.

I agree with Fubar. I've dropped my engine operating temperature by going up a gear at some specific spots on the track with negligble increase in lap times.

I do have a upgraded stiffener (whipple). And yes I do ride the upper end of the RPM range because that is were the HP is. How will a trans cooler reduce engine temp?

Just additional heat into the system at high loads without one.

Heat

It has always seemed to me that our GT's need additional cooling especially in warmer areas. Has anyone thought about Ron Davis radiators. Perhaps they have a solution for larger, better rediators for our cars that will suck out more of the heat generated by the engine. I was told that they worked on the development of the GT but Ford decided to go elsewhere for the radiators.

no problems here in Fresno,... running shadowman's headers, short cats and a whipple with a Ford racing trans cooler.

Temp

I was just cleaning her and noticed that it had boiled over out of reservoir cap.

Ahhh! The plot thickens!

Maybe I missed it in this thread, have you checked the cooling fans for proper operation: that they kick on to "high speed" at the correct temp?

Just to be clear, is this only a racing problem or an overall problem. As far as a fan problem would running the air-conditioning provide a clue?

The the a/c compressor is on, both fans should be running.
