Driverless

Let's cut to the chase. Basically, a truly 'peuter'-driven car is a chauffeur-driven car...'cept the chauffeur is C-3PO. What fun/pleasure/satisfaction can a 'car guy' possibly find/experience/get out of that? What 'driver skills' are involved/required?

'May just as well take a flippin' cab or a bus...:bored

It's crap like this that makes taking the inevitable 'dirt nap' look inviting...

I agree. Every time I think about the possibility of the boring 6 mile drive to the office being automated, I pray for death.

We autonomously dock and berth ships to the space station that is traveling at 17,000 mph 220 miles above the earth. Granted that's not cheap, but theres no way I should still be driving myself to work. I'd pay a premium to have a car that would go get its oil changed, or have itself washed, or let me take a nap... Etc.

I'm positive the technology is up to the task now, but like most things the human in the loop is fouling it up.

Do you ever sit around at NASA after reading some of the stuff on the Internet and think "Why bother?" :lol

I would if the cab or bus would wait around just in case I want to grab lunch or run an errand. I commute 40 miles through Denver 3-4 times a week, believe me there is nothing redeeming about trip. Eating, smoking, texting, construction, left lane hogs, cops, etc.. as an engaged driver make me want to send somebody to a dirt nap.

I see the government BS and lack of direction and think "why bother?" on a daily basis. However, I believe in it.

I only wish NASA space exploration and operations had the budget of FoMoCo. Last year Ford's profit was about the same as our budget.

Now where's my autonomous vehicle?:biggrin

Not quite ready for prime time....it's a very tough problem......

From article - "As self-driving cars proliferate, others issues will arise that human drivers have dealt with for decades, notably who’s liable for an accident. Each test car is required to have $5 million insurance."

I decided I'm going to be an insurance salesman. Along with my social security check, those incremental premiums should be just enough 'mailbox money' to keep me in the lifestyle to which I have become accustomed.
