Well guys on my 6 year anniversary my battery imploded on 1314. Im not dissappointed at the length of service as 6 years is about the max for an optima if they are dormant for so long........
The real good news is once I cleaned my ground connection to the frame and cleaned the battery terminal cable clamp ends.......scuffed the new battery posts and 2amp charded the new battery till it was at the max.......
I LOST NO GAUGES ,LIGHTS OR ANYTHING ELSE.....
A little nerve racking watching everything go dead or blank..waiting for everything to come back to life......but thanks to the Ford man upstairs....all was well......
Now remember the replacement is the exact size without the fordgt emblem...and now a red top battery.......the original will go on the shelf ready for the museum one day:thumbsup
Still cant explain how my LIGHT SWITCH LIGHT BURNT OUT? but thats for another day.....p.s. Am I the only one that still sits behind the wheel in the garage like its the first time and smile.......:biggrin gtjoey1314:thumbsup

The "G.T. god" smiled upon you for sure, Joey! :lol :cheers

Yes. I think you may be the only one who sits in their car like its the first time and smile. Unless of course you would include making engine noises, then there may be a couple of us. :biggrin

My battery is also coming up on 6 years old but still going strong - so far. Maybe better to be proactive and just replace. Ed

Be proactive............Supercharged,and 3 others with around the same build date had theirs go down............in the last 3 weeks......Im not chancing a surge on the gauges...its 7,500 for the set....Not telling you what to do, but the sand is running out of your hour glass.....
good luck...gtjoey1314

My 'black top' optima has come to the end of its life last weekend in my 06 #1558. This battery has never been out of the car due to the white brush marks that where painted over the terminals and clamp nuts (I'm assuming). Anyway I tired everything to revive this Optima with no success, its done, dead, period.

It was a good thing that I tired the headlights as a quick test before I started her up, lights flickered without coming on, so then I knew,
DON'T TOUCH THAT START BUTTON OR ELSE !

By the way, I have been told I even make car noises in my sleep :driving::lol

By the way....you have an 06 ........and your terminal nuts are painted white right........
SMALL FACT...........the 05 paint marks were all red to mark the right torque....the ford team had a think tank session and decided that all paint marks change to white as they thought red marks looked like something was wrong.....neat, true story......:thumbsup

This is very interesting gtjoey. I have an 05 and 06, (I know, lucky son of a gun) and noticed the two different colors just recently at various points on the cars.

And now I know that the Half Shaft bolts on my 05 have not been replaced, since the little red marks going from bolt heads over to the flange all line up perfectly and have not altered. On the 06, the dealer I bought her from informed they where changed out, and after a closer look this evening, none of the remaining white marks line up.

Thanks for this bit of info, it reaffirms that the 05 needs the new bolts.

We are replacing almost every 05 battery and a few 06's that come in if they start funny. Optima likes us. Think we bought 5 in the last 6 weeks.

Would the Optima folks know who sourced the GT Emblems on the batteries?.....maybe there are still some laying around which would be nice....

The Optima I recently purchased still had the GT emblem.
