Do you want Traction Control and Launch Control for your GT??

I'm in the last phases of deciding to go for either Whipple or TT's - and in order to make this car the ultimate track day and 1/4 mile beast I was thinking of something like this: RACELOGIC

Here is the PDF manual download: MANUAL

The system also has a Launch Control option - and how about a Heffner TT sitting on the line @ 3500 RPM building up boost with flames spitting, waiting for the green... :eek

Some of you guys I bet will go: "this car was build low tech, and if you want TC, LC, paddle shift ect. then go buy a Ferrari". But when pushing 800 RWHP on a track day, TC could be the thing that stands between you driving home or ending up on Wrecked Exotics

Whats your thoughts gentlemen??

The racelogic t.c. has been discussed on a thread around here B4. I seem to remember there was some reason or another it wouldn't work on a FGT, but I really don't recall one way or the other.

If you're really into the drag racing thing, and since the GT wasn't designed or intended for 1/4 mile comp., I'd recommend just building a car from the ground up designed strictly for that purpose. You could go that route MUCHO cheaper and easier than modding a GT, IMHO. But then, you already knew that!:lol

Regardless, if you're determined to mod your GT for the 1/4 mile, you might think about Stillen's 3:90 gear set while you're at it. And you might approach some tire company to see if they make drag tires outta super glue. 'Sounds like you're going to need 'em.:eek

I think traction control makes sense if you have any power mods. I think the dual fuel injectors is a problem for the Race Logic. I can tell you this , a very reputable source is working on traction control for the GT. It will be interesting to see what they come up with..
I would wait and see what they develop. I was told this information personally and they asked me to keep it confidential so I can't say who it is at this point.

MY secret source says hitmen are already on their way to Florida if he doesn't produce next week.

Uh oh

I am about to install a whipple and may be in need of traction control. Driving in cooler temps (canada) it is often difficult to achieve optimum tire temp; traction control would make those cooler days much safer. I look forward to your findings.

I'm just reporting some info that was told to me and the SEMA show. If the system gets fully developed I'm sure the Designer / Developer will pop up here for a full report. But if I hear anything that I can post. I'll be on top of it !!!

No.

I think thats the fun.

I drive both whipple cars in the mid 30s.Its a sure bet that if you don't keep your foot and mind on the same page its call the flat bed.Or worse.

Thats for sure!

nope

I prefer to regulate traction control manually.

A better launch but.....

........That is not my objective. The Ford GT is a low-tech car which is perfect because I'm a low-tech guy. My ability to deal with technology stops approximately at the level of the over and under shotgun. A more consistent launch and lower E.T.s are swell, but it really wouldnt be my performance, it would be technology. Kind of like hiring somebody to dork your girlfriend because you are certain he could do it better than you. He may turn in a five-star performance, but it wouldn't give me much satisfaction. :bored

What Chip said...

No TC is part of the fun.

When I tell people the GT has no traction control they just look at me in disbelief... These days even Hundays come with TC... to save us.

I'd rather be a little slower at the traffic light or at the race track (Nobody pays me for my best times anyway) but be sure I have done it myself...

I assume all the people who love the 'raw' nature of the GT have disconnected the ABS as well then? Seems a bit of a halfway house to me. I'd understand if you could switch the ABS off....

Actually I thought abt that (ABS). My "other" cars don't have power steering nor braking servos (braking action is a fuction of pressure not pedal travel)....let alone ABS...

The problem is that it's not possible to do that in the GT without completely screwing with the ECU....

I hear you though... where do you draw the line...

There is a subtle difference I think... Whilst with acceleration (and thus traction control) you decide how and when to press the pedal when braking it could be that you need to stop quickly in an emergency situation.

Like airbags and seatbelts... they are safety issues and ABS is more of a safety issue than an electronic aid.

Or maybe I am just rationalizing my BS... ;)

Hi Matteo,

I'm really just playing devils advocate really :). Given the choice I'd have TC but only if it could be turned off. I was out yesterday in the cold giving rides to the fallen soldiers at Headley Court, and it would have been handy in the ever changing road conditions. The GT is reasonably forgiving as I'm sure you know, but there are times when just a little more backup would be nice.

I know.. I know :thumbsup

I agree a 100% switchable TC would be a good solution :cheers
