I am making a list of things different on the Concept than the production car.
Anybody interested in adding to it:
outside rear view mirrors smaller on Concept GT40
no rear bumper on Concept
no rear brace bars in engine compartment on Concept
Stainless "boat" exhausts on concept
Deeper rims on Concept
Two gas caps on Concept
rectangular headlamps on Concept (from what vehicle--I know they came
from a vehicle that uses them because I saw the original chorme surrounds
in the clay model shot)
"city" cruising light on concept (useful in Europe where they don't run full lights inthe city)
More brushed aluminum in concept interior
bright center to steering wheel in concept
name: GT40 instead of Ford GT
Whole drive train may be 1" lower
different brakes
different shocks
RBT 6-speed in Concept (adapted from Pantera)

horsepower?

Of course the concept had actual reliefs in the door...because the windows didn't have to go down. That was something that proved challenging to put in the production version, but they basically took the "real" reliefs out of the door and made the area surrounding it larger/bulkier to give the illusion of reliefs, so there'd be room for the window to go down.

I'm pretty sure a Ford contact told me the headlights came from the Jeep Wrangler, but I can't remember for sure (that was almost four years ago).

The headlights in the Concept car continue to fascinate me. They had a chrome surround seen in the shot of a clay model in the Larry Edsall book before they had a chance to bring the clay up to cover the chrome. So they might be off an existing car. But the interesting thing is that they had a vertical blue tube, possibly neon, about 3" high. This tube lit up because I saw a picture of this lamp fully on in a French magazine. Camilo Pardo said he was inspired by "dentist's lights." But I think in the end, they ran out of the time needed to
make a headlamp that matched the Concept so chose something ready made. Since I haven't driven one at night, I can't tell you how well the production lamps work but I am sure they are a match for BMW's, etc.

I have pictures which I shot of the first yellow GT taken at the showing of the concept car when it debuted at Concourso several years ago. All the aluminum parts were polished. I haven't figured out how to post pictures, I will be glad to e-mail them to anyone who requests them.

hi, when you get a chance, i would love to see the concept car pics.
thanks...george

No Wipers!

The fluid containers under the clam (ie. oil and hydraulic) were polished aluminum with billet aluminum caps.

I remember seeing what looked like a top loading CD player in the concept version. Right in front of the shifter...

White out-line on the black Le Mans stripes...

I believe the shifter was located farther forward and changed in production due to a more user friendly placement.

Bright seat grommets were shown in the concept.

I loved those bright seat grommets! I was bummed that the production versions didn't have that...

Sooner or later, someone on here will post pics of their seats that they've had modded to look like that, and I will be in envy...

Thats a great idea... maybe Analogdesign will pick up on it...:-)
