Devon GTX on DuPont Registry cover.

Frank - yes, it will now be worth some real $$ I suspect. If you bring it to the FGT2010 Rally, I will personally autograph it for you ...make it worth even more! :)

Sorry to hear the news Andy. Caught this on another forum. Very sad indeed. Perhaps a phoenix may yet rise from the ashes? We can dream.

Sorry to hear the news Andy. Loved the car at SEMA and was hopeful one might land in my garage. Please keep us in the loop (or send me an email) about what you guys come up with next.

Are you guys looking at building another platform car or ???

Ok... yeah I got questions .... LOL

Best of luck to you guys.

Devon GTX

I'm sorry to hear about the status of the Devon GTX Andy. You worked very hard & your enthusiasm was huge when I took this photo in Monterey in August.

Andy,
Monica and I were so sorry to hear about this. You guys had it just right.
We know there are great things to come for you and look forward to seeing you in SoCal at the new store.
Sincerely,
T & M

Thanks to all of you guys for the nice words and support. I will keep everyone posted as best I can... Hey, worst case we will all see each other in Florida at Rally V!

Andy

Does this mean you will be out of a job?
If so, What are your plans?

Good luck to you in your future!:thumbsup

Hello Andy,

Sad to hear that the GTX will not go ahead as planned. :frown

Question: have you ever thought about putting a dry sump Ford GT engine into the car instead?

Cheers
Jason

Jason - early on we tried to buy up a bunch of 5.4L dry sumps...all were sold. But the issue is really more than just an engine. In order for a small company to have a vehicle with any hope of meeting FMVSS, DOT, EMISSION, CARB certifications, you need to start with a '50 state Platform vehicle'. Hence we picked Viper. Otherwise it is about $200Million to design, develop, test, tool and certify (crash, roof crush, emissions etc) a chassis and powertrain from Scratch..

I had talked to Ford Motor Co. about allowing us the rights to 'productionize' the GR-1 which we all love. We wanted to use the chassis, front engine, rear trans layout, aluminum space frame etc and build the DevonGTX on it. It would have said "powered by Ford" on the fender....Then my potential plan was as a second generation, we (DevonMotorWorks) in conjunction with Ford could have built and certified the GR-1 --this shiny aluminum one we all have seen..if we so desired. It was not approved by Ford.
So we did Viper...a true beast of a car and could have been cool.

Doogie...no plans as of now - I figure the wind-down of the GTX will take some weeks and Scott has a lot of other 'non-car' projects... I may just run for Governor of Michigan!.
take care and thanks,
andy (AJB)

Andy, move to Illinois and run for governor here.

Andy's our man!

I'd vote for you anyday Andy!!!

Thanks for your input Andy! :cheers

Is it not possible to build the car as a "kit" car instead of a production car?

Thanks for answering these questions as I am beginning to understand the automotive industry a little better.

Cheers
Jason

Jason..we never wanted to be a 'kit car builder'. The car (as you saw at SEMA ) was to be top-flight quality and fully assembled.

Ed - thanks for the 'vote' !!

Understood...just thought another way around the system would be to call it a 'kit' car. That way you wouldn't have to set aside such a beautiful piece of work.

All the best!
