I'm 53 and do not know who the Monkeys are. How old are you guys?

May he RIP.

54 dude - I was in my pre-teens. You must be from another planet HH. Everyone our age knew who they were - these guys were huge! :)

I know who the monkeys are. I had their poster up in my room and watched their shows all the time. I was just trying to make you guys feel old...:tongue

Best Brady Bunch episode ever! Saw the Monkees in concert 1984.

I remember opening for the Monkees when they were past their prime (late70s) minus Nesmith. Nice guys

I hear they were great in concert, Davey made the covers of all the Teen mags in the day.

Do you still play?

Do you still play?

Yes, but thankfully no longer for a living.

Monkees

Great group! RIP DJ!

GT, who did you play for?

One of my favorite groups growing up (and I'm a LOT younger than you Sam). Enjoyed their TV show as well. RIP Davy Jones.

GT, who did you play for?

No one you would have ever heard of. After playing through college we went full time for 2 years trying to "make it". As said on another post, we tended to play with groups on way up (Springsteen when he was in Steel Mill) or groups on way down (Hermens Hermits, Union Gap et al)

Enough of that will make anyone apply to law school.

....oh what can it mean....

Gentlemen,

In the last couple years I saw Davey Jones twice and he looked great. Stayed pretty fit and still sang well enough to make a living singing the old Monkee tunes to groups of 50 something boomers like us. Daydream Believer is as iconic a song as any from the 60's and I was amused when I saw it played at a freshman orientation function at Texas A&M last year. Every kid in the auditorium knew the words and was singing along.....and they were all born 26 years AFTER that song was a hit. 66 year old Davey Jones must have loved seeing the intergenerational appeal of his music. RIP
