Westcoast guys,

Who is going to Concorso and who is going to the Quail Lodge event this year? I'm trying to decide which event to attend.

Unless you already have Quail tix, they sold out the first day they were available, quite some time ago.

Monterey Historics

GT Ed - I'll be in Monterey Fri-Sun. I'd love to see who wins the Quail Lodge Bonhams & Butterfields auction on one of my favorite cars of all time - the pre-War Auto Union D Type (chassis #19 driven by Hans Stuck!). I just saw it at Sears Point on its preview tour. So cool. Are you driving your GT?

The Auto

Here are a few photos I took at Sears Point last weekend. You have to see the car up close to appreciate it. Chassis 019 built 1938. Mid-engined, aluminum block & heads, triple cams, 60 deg V12, twin staged Roots style supercharger with 485hp at 7000rpm. My guess is $6-10 million.

JaxGT,

I was given a password a few months ago to buy up to 4 tix on a specific day, starting at 8:30am. Then, I signed on the website ~10mins late and I was told all tix were sold out! Subsequently, I called Quail to put me on waitlist in case someone changes their mind on attending. Well, this afternoon, Quail contacted me and provided a password to sign on for tix, again!! I just bought 2 tix.

Now, I have 2 tix, including display a car, for Concorso Italiano. I bought the Concorso tix on 5/31 for $150. before the price increase on June 1. So, if anyone wants to go Concorso, but missed the reduced tix price, I have 2 for sale.

Special Ed, nice pix of the Audi! I wonder if this is the same Audi I saw on a tv show last year. The topic of the tv show was about a pre-war Auto Union silver race car that was listed for auction by Christies, but at the very last second, Christie pulled it out of the auction because there were evidence potentially question the authenticity of the car and history. That car looked exactly like the one in your picture. I wonder if subsequently the question was propertly addressed and resolved. if that is the same car, I'll be interested in knowing the winning bid and by whom....

Yes, I'll be driving the GT. Are you going to be there during the car weekend?

Monterey Historics

GT Ed - I'll be at the Historics but I may not bring the GT as I may have to bring 2 others with me. I'll probably arrive Friday afternoon.

Chassis 019, as I believe all Auto Union D types; came from the Soviet Union since the factory in Germany was captured in 1945 by the invading Soviets. All the cars, parts & machinery were stolen and sent back to the USSR. Anything that comes from the former USSR is suspect in my books but I haven't done any research into the provenance/authenticity of #019. I just hope whoever buys it puts it on the track where it was meant to be.

Yes, this is the same car that was to be auctioned by Christies as #21 until at the last minute there was suspicion that they had gotten the chassis # wrong. Now it's all been sorted out and indeed is #19.

I have a few more photos here: http://atspeedimages.com/search.php?s=1939+Auto+Union+Type+D+V12+Grand+Prix+#19

I'll be at the Quail event on Friday, Laguna on Saturday and Pebble Beach on Sunday. Staying at the Portola Plaza. Plan to bring the GT even though it will get totally filthy at Laguna.

It would be cool to get together with some other FGT folks!
