Coil pack covers corrosion

Mine are getting the corrosion under the clear coat. I plan to strip them and have them powder coated red, then I will carefully hand paint the depressed letters and circles and stripe white, so the colors match my car!

I blasted mine, painted in black crinkle finish and then wire brushed the top surface back to bare metal and then clear coated. They turned out very nice. That was 3 yrs ago and they have not corroded since.

I am thinking along the same lines with my "old ones"...maybe tungsten or black recessed areas
Can you take/post a picture?

The black crinkle looks good.

Xcentic, did you do as jcthorne suggested...spray in crinkle then clean off the polished surface and clear-coat?

James did mine.

Thanks for posting the pic.

Yes, that is how those were done. The top surface is a brushed finish, not polished although that might look good too depending on the porosity of your covers. Mine would not polish well.

Did you do anything special to get through the factory clear coat? My attempt with micro-fine silica blasting was too hard. Did you chemical (which one) and/or bead blast?

I used black beauty blasting sand. Not because it has some technical merit but because the fab yards i do business with buy it by the ton and don't mind if I recycle a 5 gal bucket once a year or so. But I had no issue getting the factory clear coat off. I did not blast the bottom.

I ordered a new set of coil cover bolts and camshaft cover bolts. Mine are badly corroded. The Ford parts guy I dealt with (not local) mentioned that coil covers are still available in the Ford parts system.

He went on to say: "The last couple sets we could get our hands on were rather rough, with plenty of corrosion under the clear.
We can still actually get these from Ford, but are restricted to GT owners. Most of the ones we sold in the past ended up on Cobras and GT500s."

Gary, at one time there were some stainless bolt options available.

I have moved these out recently with no problems.

Yes, I saw that. Indy GT will be proud of me...I used the forum search function. :) But the thread ends with all bolts sold.

Ford camshaft cover bolts are $42.24 for 16. This time, I'll put some protective coating on them.

Ford Genuine Parts -

Coil cover bolts: PN *W701621*S437 (1 per package).

Camshaft cover bolts: PN *W708441*S900 (4 per package).

Packages dated 08/04.

Not shiny like SS, but no corrosion. Install them, make a little paper cone to fit around the bolt head, and spray with clear coat.
