Clutch squeal

Clutch is working fine, no slippage and all gears are engaging properly. With the clutch depressed no problem but when you let out the clutch in first gear sometimes there is a small squeal for just a second or two then its back to normal. I'm thinking throw out bearing. But could it be the actual clutch or maybe the pilot bearing? Problem is only in first gear. The squeal sounds like a fan belt when slipping. Any opinions, thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Likely not the actual clutch assembly however it could be the T/O bearing If mine I would not loose sleep over it at this stage however I would keep an ear alert and see if it begins to get worse or even better simply goes away.

Over the years we have installed clutch assemblies and the darn T/O bearing would talk to us once in a while for the first few thousand miles and then one day we simply forgot that the noise was ever there.

Don't know what kind of pilot bearings these cars use but if it happens during clutch engagement that would be my guess.

Hey Ravage,
I had the same issue once here. Then I read an advice from Neilda, learnt from his Aston Martins..When on the road, drive at good speed, disengage the clutch to let the engine revv down, then reengage it to revv up the engine. This will work the clutch discs the other way, and somehow deposit, even out or clean the clutch discs so next time you will use it, the squek will be gone with a bit of luck. Do it a few times, it helped me !

One would think it wouldn't be a t/o bearing because the noise only happens in low gear. Ditto the p/b. If it were either, each time they were "used" there should be a noise.

Mebbe a 'shaft bearing?????:shrug

My reason for sharing my experience with the T/O bearing is because when depressing and releasing during first gear would be the initial point that it the T/O bearing is loaded (under pressure) whereas when driving it simple idles along.

On these gals I do not know however experience over the years has seen those T/O bearings that chirp a bit during the initial engagement but have always corrected themself once the gal get a few miles on her.

As for the pilot bearing; it remains along for the ride throughout its life never feeling any side load UNLESS a severe out of balance situation with the clutch pack.

On this issue all I can share is what I have experienced

Mine makes the same noise tiny chirp in-between gears.

Ok I was an idiot and tried to see how fast I could shift ever since it make this tiny chirp when grabbing 1-2 or 2-3 shift.

Thank you all for the responses. I don't think it's something I can live with though. The sound is very loud and kinda embarrassing at times. I'm debating weather to take it in under warranty or do it myself. Either way something needs to be done.

Why don't you just take it to your dealer, have the GT tech go for a ride w/you - and take it from there?:shrug

Never heard of this until last weekend when out of the blue my wife decided she wanted to learn how to drive the GT. When she engaged 1st gear my car sounded like Ned Beatty!

The issue has not been resolved yet. I've received many responses from different sources and found out people have the same issue after installing HD kevlar clutches. I got this car not long after a new clutch was installed. From what I’ve been told, the sound should go after a few thousand miles. I guess the issue has been brought up with SPEC with no real answer. So it's not just me. I'm going to try and ride it out to see if it goes away like they promise it will.

I wonder if there are some high spots on the clutch plate?

When I had my Vanquish (which had a rather fragile clutch and it would get hot just moving it around in the garage) there was a routine for eliminating these.

The routine was, when everything is warmed up, when driving fast - 70mph + - do some slow clutch release gear changes. It has the effect of bringing the plates back more evenly.

Don't know if this would solve your problem or what others think....?

My F1 Ferrari and cambiocorsa maserati would do the same thing, I had a 1.5 inch lip at my garage entrance that would be a bitch to get over with those trannies. How did you like the tranny in the vanquish?
