Anyone have a CAV GT40 ?
My interest is growing .Thinking this might be a great track/ vintage racer.Maybe its time to trade the cup car ?
Anyone know how much??
Thanx, Roketman

Gordo has a CAV.

Go to the GT40 site http://www.gt40s.com/forum/ to get the scoop.
Go to Cobra Country and on the lower left side this is button to see if anyone is selling, the link is: http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html

I visited two of the builders in March when we where in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
Jimy Price's plant builds the SUPERFORMANCE GT 40 and CAV.

Be sure you understand what you must do to license them in the Republik of Mass.
You should be able to get information on that plus more information on the 40 replicas at: http://www.clubcobra.com/

A roller is about $60k to $70k, then add the transaxle and motor, you will approach and exceed the century mark quickly.
If I wanted one I would contact their dealer Bob Orthoff who father was a famous Cobra racer and has a great reputation for setting these cars up right.
You can find him and more on Superformance at :http://www.superformance.com/gt40.aspx

Hope this helps...
PM the skinny on your Cup Car, I ass-ume you talking Nextel?

I took a good long look at both and once I move will probably purchase the SPF. To do either "right" ie, Webber style FI, 400+ cu in alum. small block and a new "upper end" transmission (there are many options and most wont handle big HP)..... be ready to go above $120,000.
Please keep me posted on which way you go.:thumbsup

Bony ,
Great info ,thanks. I'll be checking that out !
The cup car is a Porsche . Hope it didn't disappoint ya!
Ron :cheers

No problem, I am sorta, maybe, couldbe, interested in a Nextel car...
Only for safety reasons. Thanks Ron!!

There has been a change in the selling organization of Superformance. Olthoff Racing no longer sells new MK 3's, Daytona's and GT 40's. This is now handled by Ed Wayland, 704-787-4622. Dennis Olthoff, who took over Olthoff Racing after his father, Bob, passed away last year, is an excellent person to work with on the service/maintenance side of the Superformance products. Dennis also has an inventory of previously owned cars which are very reasonably priced. Their web site is www.olthoffracing.com. I purchased my Daytona from Dennis 3 years ago, have had a number of contacts with him since, and I can say without any reservation that both Dennis and his staff are first class people.

rocketman I have owned a CAV since JUly 2003. It was the very first one in to Canada.
Running a 351 W stroked to 392, 48 IDA webers, ZF 5 spd transaxle, gulf flares and colours.
Been a great car and handles great especially with CAV Canada's upgrades. Check the gt40sforum.com and there is a lot of info there between the 2 as well as pics of my car. There are also pics of my car in the gallery and in the "side by side" thread.:cheers

Wow, that is a major change. Olthoff has so much to do with the introduction of Price's cars. I have only heard great things about the late father and his son.

cav gt40

Ok ,after surfing the web for hours and hours ,I may have found a cav gt40.
Heres my question;
DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHICH IS BETTER THE CAV (the one I found is #57) or the SUPERFORMANCE GT40. BETTER TO ME IS MOST TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE .
Thanx, Ron

Is the CAV a space frame which is an early version or a monacaque (sp) construction.
The other questions are build quality. Buy a car with a couple of thousand miles on it.
Later builds are much prefered.

Sorry Gordo, I would take a SUPERFORMANCE over a late produced CAV

Cav Gt40

Roketman -

I have a 2006 CAV GT40 - chasis #123. Bored and stroked to 396 with a single 4-barrel. It's around 450 bhp @ 2400 lbs. Runing an Audi transmission.
If I did it again I'd go ZF. Build quality is excellent. Car is as good as it gets. But - you are still running 1960's technology. It's no Ford GT. A day in the saddle is a long day! I looked at the Superformance product but it's lacking in fit and finish. Done to a much lower standard. And for more money.

If you buy SP from Dennis - he's a good guy. I knew his Dad from waaay back. He was in fact one of the test drivers in the UK for the works Mini's in the 1960's. Darn good driver and car guy extrodinaire!

If you are going to track the car, CAV have just produced the GT40R. At a recent track test of the top 20 performance cars in SA the only cars (marginally) quicker were the Lambo Gallardo Superlegra and the new Porsche GT3RS. I was at the factory a few weeks ago and saw it. I may buy one. A very nice piece. Here are a few photos. E-mail Jean or John at the factory. They are straight shooters. I can't recommend them more highly. http://www.cav.co.za/

Gordo.

The choice is clear. SPF.

This is not meant to be critical of the CAV, and my experience with them has been with only one car, but IMO driving the CAV is nothing like driving an original GT40. They are night and day different. The CAV didn't get anywhere close to the overwhelming intensity of the noise, heat and vibration of an original GT40. Now, this may be a good thing! But if replication of the feel of an original GT40 is what you want, the CAV may not be the car to deliver that. Just my $0.02.
