Just wondering how many members are aware of the impending only pre 1978 cars rule. I guess this means we're on the outside looking in. Go on the C&C website for more information.

I don't think the rule is only pre 1978. I thought it was pre-1978 and exotics.

Hope you're right....

But I do agree with the organizers....something needs to change over there

From what I read it didn't seem that way, 11 pages of posts and everyone seems to think it's only going to be pre 78. I think exotics would be too subjective to solve the problem they are having. Not to be nasty, but the sense I got was that everyone with a BMW had an exotic, just not enough room for everyone.

Yeah, you're going to offend some people no matter what. If you don't, you're invariably going to be overrun by cars that aren't in the spirit of the original event and the cars that made it good will stop showing. Definitely a lose-lose.

I just emailed John Clinard to hopefully get a clarification.

If they defined exotics as a KBB value of $100K North, that would eliminate all BMWs with the exception of the ones I like - Z8, M1, 2002Tii and the 3.0 CSI. All the new M5 & M6s would be considered handicaps.:biggrin:biggrin

It will not effect FGT's and 'interesting cars'....
Guess I won't show up with my Volvo...

Got a reply from John Clinard and yes, Ford GT's and any other "modern classics" will still be allowed.

So it's cars from pre-1978, and any "modern classic", which would encompass Ford GT, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. They obviously have a big problem with huge groups of cars like the S2000 or similar showing up. That's not a slant at the S2000, but people come to see the big guns, or the really special old stuff. It is what it is.

Thanks for the clarification Dave......I don't want to be denied when rolling up.

I'll atend this weekend to see what kind of malay breaks loose:lol

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. People act like morons with little provocation. Having some guy say "your car isn't good enough to park here" will definitely send some bonehead into a frenzy.

The ladies at Fchat have their clits in the air....no 308's, 360's, Momdials

They could limit the cars to cars that had 5000 or less produced in a single year. Would eliminate 90% of the none exotics. Obviously all CLASSIC cars would be allowed. Just gotta come up with a way to weed out the cars that dont belong.

I'm quite sure that if you roll up in a 360 they will allow you in. In fact, I would wager if you show up in pretty much any Ferrari they will let you in.

do I see a potential stereotyping event taking form - AGAIN! :willy

in short Mike, YES!

Last week I showed up in the Honda Clarity and they didn't want to let me in. I explained that this is one of only three cars in the world and they still said no. I had to call John over and he yelled at them to let me in because it is a hydrogen car (and being a GT owner didn't hurt).

It would have been bad PR for C&C because Car and Driver was there to interview me about the car. They wanted to see what kind of reaction the car gets. As always, there was a massive crowd around the car till after 9am! People were thanking me for bringing the car.

Does this mean, no more special and important cars that the public needs to see? Very sad:thumbsdow

It seems the ruling is any car that is unusual/interesting, the decision being left up to the gate-keeper. Watching who stays and who goes may become the most interesting part of the show. As I was just sitting here a thought came to me, the first 10 people to show up become the judges, they stand there and give the thumbs-up or thumbs-down. If taken in a good natured way could be fun. Imagine 100 on lookers hooting and hollering. I can picture this on U-tube already.

That's unfortunate Jim, but I'm sure they're working on figuring out a system. As you know, there is no love lost between one of the C&C organizers and myself, but I think Clinard is trying his best to make sure everything of interest gets in.

I think one of 5 Hydrogen cars in public hands anywhere definitely fits that bill.
