If we get into Led Zeppelin, we should also add "Livin' Lovin' Maid" and "Kasmir".

And for late night crusing: "Midnight Mile" by the Stones.

How about:

ZZ Top - "Rough Boy"
Dick Dale - "Misirlou"
Viscounts - "Harlem Nocturne."

It is a shame that it breaks numerous laws, we could compile a Ford GT travelling CD collection.

(With regard to stars making money, it should go like this: "We just made $50 million. Would the grown-ups please spend it appropriately for us?")

Dick Dale - "Misirlou"... hmm - like Pulp Fiction, but the theme will make me miss gears and go in top revs in 3rd to 2nd trying to hit 4th...

Yes, that is Dick Dale.

Great instrumentals, but here are two down and dirty GT cruise songs.

"Rumble" by Link Wray
and
"Raunchy" by Bill Justis

Sheryl Crow -- Steve McQueen (watch it when playing this one and driving the GT in an area where you can open it up...) :biggrin

Doc, that's interesting about Focus - a fantastic band, I remember them well. Sylvia was a superb track and reminds me of another band from that era - Golden Earing and 'Radar Love' - that would be a great driving song for the GT!

A pal of mine is a guitar collector too - I know nothing about guitars other than he will happily pay $150k+ for the right one.

Neilda:

Yes, the guitarist that played for Focus in more recent years is an internet friend of mine. He is amazingly talented and had fronted for a European band called Vitesse in the 70s.

And yes, there is very little limit on what someone will pay for the right guitar. I met a Viper owner who bought a very, very worn `59 Les Paul (Gibson) and felt he got a bargain...$200k. People talk about car appreciation...if you had purchased and warehoused a stack of `57-60 Les Pauls, you would have quite a financial windfall.

I like guitar work as a road tune, so:

"Whpping Post" and "Mountain Jam" - Allman Bros. Live at the Filmore

(this is actually one song released across two albums...when I was young, I spliced them together...45 minutes of great blues rock), enough for a very nice cruise.

I made a CD specifically for the GT to imprint it's musical DNA. 10 songs (vin#1110). First song ever played: Shine by Collective Soul. I figured the religious overtones couldn't hurt in a 550hp car.:biggrin

May I suggest Social Distortion? SoCal punk/rockabilly? The entire album, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, the first track, Cold Feelings is just the snap you need to wake you up late night on I-80 in Iowa :thumbsup
Also Highway 101 is just the perfect top down, nowhere to go driving song.
Led Zep. Sick Again just calls for you to dip into the accelarator a little more

This is a great thread--tunes and GT: unbeatable combination!

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple (but only for the Made in Japan album)

(and, also from their live album only)

All the Young Dudes and All the Way to Memphis - Mott the Hoople

With the right music, no stereo system can be wrong.

Never heard of Social Distortion. I need to check that out.

I completely forgot about:

Dirty Deeds - AC/DC (fun riff that anyone can learn with practice).

Do any of you guys remember Platinum Blonde? A Canadian band from the late 70's and early 80s?

It Doesn't Really Matter

And 1 of 101, if you like Royksopp, take a listen to Sigur Ros (Takk), Fragile State (The Facts & the Dreams and/or Voices From the Dust Bowl), Bliss (Quiet Letters), Weekend Players (Pursuit of Happiness) and Mandalay (Empathy and/or Instinct)

You'll find it hard to get a good view of the song based on a 15-30 second sample but if you like what you hear, drop me a PM.

I also have a load more 'good' finds in a similar vein :thumbsup

Anyone into power trios? Check out Wolfmother. Flashbacks of Black Sabbath, Zepplin, and ELP. They are touring Europe and Australia currently, but if they hit DFW, I'm definitely gonna check em out.

In a previous car club, someone video taped a fairly long section of a canyon drive we held and later distributed it with some background music. I can tell you that it is a mental image/tune that can never be forgotten. (Anybody who saw/listened to Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" from Miami Vice will know of what I speak. Better yet, how 'bout Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms) Do yourself a favor and download this tune, close your eyes and imagine a nice canyon run in your GT along with some comrades.

Cake - Long Line of Cars

"There's a long line of cars
And they're trying to get through

There's no single explanation
There's no central destination

But this long line of cars
Is trying to get through

And this long line of cars

Is all because of you

You don't wonder where we're going
Or remember where we've been

We've got to keep this traffic
Flowing and accept a little spin....."

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day youll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And youll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
Ive watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

Theres so many different worlds
So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the suns gone to hell
And the moons riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But its written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
Were fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
