Is anyone driving up on the Friday from the NYC area?

I can't decide if we want to go or not. What are the dates? Without an Indy race, we will miss Formula One this year, and that's a bummer. The negative side is that Montreal is an EXTREME drive from Detroit, especially now that they can confiscate your car in Ontario if you're caught more than 40kph over. When the speed limit is 100kph, that makes for a long, slow ride. We would likely go the NY route, but that's an awful lot of drivin.

DBK it is 50km/h over that they can impound your car for an automatic 7 days, automatic court date and fine starting at $2,000 up to $10,000.:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow
So you get an extra 9km/h to get there faster.:banana

Just a suggestion. Montreal has in the past had one of the highest car theft rates. I was at the GP about 5 years ago and our Avalanche was stolen from the hotel lot the first night. I am sure it was an inside job. The police were oh so helpful. If you go don't drive anything that you won't mind parting with.

Three years ago I drove the DB9, for the last two I took the F430. I park in the hotel garage and never had a problem. This year, I am planning on taking the GT.:thumbsup

I live 1 hr south of Montreal and I have been to the GP many times. Yes montreal is #1 for having cars stolen. They especially like big SUVs. Definitely inside jobs and cars are placed into shipping containers and off to eastern Europe and the middle east before you have the chance to report the theft!! However this being the case it is still definitely worth the trip. I agree to keep the cars in the Hotel garages under carefull watch (tip well and insist on parking the car yourself). Never park in the paid parking lots but always in plain site. The French Canadians love cars and racing and are very appreciative of fine cars. Saturday night is the best time since the whole city comes alive for the GP. Streets are blocked off for the cars to park. Little Italy is of course expecting another Ferrari win!! You will not find better restaurants in all of North America. Reserve early.
The track itself is on an island. Getting off after the race is a challange!! If I can be of further assistance PM me.
Not the deal it once was (canadian dollar at par) but still definitely worth it
