At note about the "voluntary" recall. Every recall from every motor vehicle manufacturer since the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards went into effect in 1968 has been a "voluntary" recall. Any time a manufacturer has fought the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has tried to force a manufacturer to recall a vehicle that the manufacturer has not wanted to recall, the attorneys for the government have always lost the case to the big bucks attorneys hired by the manufacturer. Even the recent Toyota recalls were "voluntary".

We have a Cooper S and I concur with your findings. She likes it enough not to get rid of it... yet. Resale is very good fortunately.

Did you see the latest Motor Trend comparing the $40K Mustang GT to the $67K M3? The Mustang bested the M3 in nearly every performance category (solid axle and all) and with a professional driver, was only .09 seconds behind lapping Willow Springs. With better shocks, The Mustang would have probably bested the M3 there too.

I did see the comparison. The results are a testament to how far the Mustang has come. Once it has an independent rear suspension, as I suspect it will with the next platform, it will be hard to beat for the money. I drove the new 5.0 and loved it, although I'm not ready to embrace the new tail light treatment.
