Hey Guys,

I am considering painting the factory BBS upgraded wheel in black for my black GT.

I was wondering if anyone has pictures. The only one I have seen is the Stillen Ford GT.

Also, I can't decide on:

1) Actual Paint color: gloss black to match color of car, matte or satin black as an option...

2) Design: wondering how it would look if outer rim of wheel was left unpainted, or if that is even a viable option given design of wheel. Also whether to paint inner well of the wheel, although it would probably just be covered in brake dust anyway...

Any photos or just general suggestions would be appreciated. The one thing I have decided is that I would prefer paint with clear coat over powder coat.

Thanks in advance!

Gloss black w/the unpainted rim (maybe even polished?)! And I'd paint the entire backside of the rim to match (I'd use whatever "rim" treatment the FRONT of the wheel gets on the "backside" rim as well).

I think the thread on this car shows a photo of it with powdercoated forged wheels...

I really like this wheel finish (not sure of process, definitely does not look like painted though) that was on a 997 Porsche Twin Turbo:

I'm still undecided if this is the basic look that I desire. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. Doesn't help that it is on a Corvette, perhaps. j/k

And I am looking for a deep rich black as opposed to a graphite:

Thanks Sam. Dennis has a great result with his wheels. He worked with a painter from Brea and obtained a 4 day turnaround.

Are the standard wheels about as expensive as factory lightweight wheels?

My concern would be the additional weight...Otherwise I think what Dennis did is a very unique and cool look. I love the center piece on the standard wheel.

Thanks for the link Silver. Very helpful. It led me to do a search for the Roush Ford GT also:

Shadowman powdercoated his wheels black, and they turned out really nice. Might want to contact him.

Randy, you should also consider Black Chrome - they look awesome.

Thanks jdoc! I just re-located Bill's thread with your help. I have concerns about powder coating, but knowing Bill, to say he researches processes would be an understatement. Perhaps I need to look into powder coating again.

And his end result looks great, I like that finish. I like the result that Bill obtained with the powder coat...Wheel picture is in the middle of the thread...

'Still say you need SOMETHING to breakup all the "black". There needs to be a bit of 'visual relief'/'interest' provided somehow. 'Some kind of accent if you will. A polished or painted rim would do that - as the above pic of the Porche(?) with the yellow stripe on it's rims demonstrates.

Here is a link to a black chrome video. I saw a ferrari 430 at C&C and it looked sharp.

Thanks EP. I do see what you are saying. When I look at the Corvette, it looks like a big chunk of black and that's probably what I don't like about it. Some of the GT pics look okay to me, but I definitely don't want the chunk of black look...

Seems like it should be so easy. Work is stressing me out this week, so this is a good diversion of remaining brain cells.

Black Chrome is a Pain in the A$$. A microfiber towel will scratch it.

Additionally when I checked there was only one plating house that would touch it and even then no guarantee.....

DAMN Syco...Kyle was kind enough to roll the Stillen Anthracite wheels next to my car to see how it looks against the black this morning!

It's gotta be the weather. :cool

Have you seen SteveA's set up? They look awesome!

Hey Kingman,

I didn't realize the Stillen wheels are anthracite in color and not flat black...

Hey Randy,

Yea, are wheels are a dark anthracite with a metallic flake. You can't really tell when they aren't clean, but when they are clean and the sun hits them just right it looks great!

Thanks Kyle. Did you paint them in house at Stillen, or send them out for paint?
