Be easy on me- I can't keep my clamshell up

As the title says, my clamshell will not stay up at all. One or both of the struts are bad. Anyone have a part number and a place to get OEM struts? The front trunk is weak also- I would like to replace them too.

I did a search and did not come up with much.

Thanks!!

Anthony

Try Scott at Dearborn Performance 734-421-2782 or Torrie. Cant remember Torrie's contact info but search his name. Either can help you with the parts you seek.

If you strike out on OEM struts: from a $$$ standpoint (and I'm not being at all factious when I suggest this), you might stagger into your local NAPA store (or you name the parts place) with one of the offending struts in hand and ask, "'You have something like this?" 'Point being: a strut is a strut. Who the devil is going to know the diff - or CARE? :biggrin :cheers

Viagra?

Get ahold of Torrie (pm Tmcphail on the forum) or FastPartsNetwork.com - I think he stocks them.

NAPA, etc will not have them. Save yourself a lot of time and frustration and contact Torrie (preferrably) or a Ford dealer. Lots of places claim to have them, but they confuse trunk & clamshell struts.

Good grief! 'You mean even something as universal as these struts are virtually a 'one off' item on FGTs?!

Sheeeeeeeeze...! :willy:willy:willy

(I'll bet there's a non-FGT strut out there somewhere that'd fit/work just as well. There just cannot be anything that special about the ones FGTs came equipped with IMHO. Why DO that? :shrug)

I have an OEM set in stock if you need them. Can ship tomorrow (Thursday). Just let me know.

I am not so much of a purest, BUT some Pantera guys tried to use "generic" struts to hold up the engine cover and ultimately rippled the sheet metal where the hinge was attached to the roof (due to too much pressure).
Be careful!

The OEM struts are not specific to the GT but I forget what else they fit. Point is they are not THAT overpriced for OEM Ford and they 'just fit' I tried the generic replacements from StrongArm and ended up hanging them up in the garage and ordering the Ford ones.

It's not hard to find aftermarket struts that are the correct length, but the problem is finding them with the correct force. The GT's clamshell struts are 540 Newtons, I believe.

DBK, et alia: The moderators should make this a sticky in the tech topic. All struts wear out eventually, and we all will have to replace them, so this info should be readily available. Thanks.

The AMS links lead to the discovery that according to the AMS catalog, 1) only trunk lift struts are listed; and 2) they are the same as Fusion links used between 12/04/06 and 1/17/2007. Their force is 101 lbs. AMS does not list hood lift struts.

I got mine from Torrie.
It was easy!
Best,
Mark

5G7Z-63406A10-AA Part number for rear strut. Says Made in Germany on part number. Replace in pairs for best performance

Seeing this thread last week got me off my rear and I ordered the struts from my local Ford dealer.

Picked them up today and snapped (literally) them into place. No more droopy clamshell.

Here's the label.
