Audi R8 - V10 thoughts?

Anybody spend any time behind the wheel of one of these newer gals ?

I had a V8 version for a short while that I really liked (traded it last year for a second GT). My primary issue was its being underpowered. With an extra 100+hp, the V10 version sounds interesting. I think the $30,000 upcharge for the extra 100hp is crazy though unless things are really improved. If you think about it, that kind of change would get you an extra 400hp in your GT by twin-turboing it.

I also heard that one can reflash the new R8's chip for similar performance as the V10 Lambo, but I'm skeptical.

A friend with numerous gals in his stable including Ford GT's just picked up the paddle version 8 cylinder and was told by many that it is a better handling gal; particulalry on the track when compared the V10.

This is all I know other than his is silver with carbon fiber blades and looks; sweet.

Mitch,

You already know how an R8 feels. To experience the power, just go test drive a used Gallardo. They are readily available, and should give you a good sense of what the powertrain will feel like. The 2009-10 LP560 with direct injection is a great performer, but the older ones have essentially the same output as the R8 5.2.

I actually like the V8 R8. We have had two of them and they do not seem to be lacking power at all to me. No, they are not as fast as the Ford GT out of the box, but the power delivery is very smooth and feel quick at that. Further, Jason is now offering a bolt on system turbo system that is fairly affordable. Problem solved! :)

Hell yeah! A Heffner TTV8 will kill that V10 anyday, anytime.

I was considering the Heffner TT for my V8 R8.The handling is amazing and it is more than fast enough for street performance..and smooth for sure! However, now that I am driving the Rossion , I think any possible desire for more speed has been solved ! :thumbsup

Thanks Guys.
Stewart -Glad to hear you are enjoying the Rossion, and the R8 still. Been missing my R8, which is why I've been thinking about the V10.

Sanjay - Unfortunately, I don't fit in the Gallardo (not enough head/leg room) to give it a proper test ride.

Shelby - a TT R8 is indeed an interesting proposition. Might be the best of all worlds, albeit the likely loss of factory warranty that would ensue.

Here's what Top Gear said:

"Performance

Here's the good bit. Think the 414bhp V8 was squirty? The 5.2 V10 punts out 525bhp, chucks the R8 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds and eggs it on to nearly 200ph. Third gear overtakes are very special; it revs to 8,700rpm. That'll make your ears curl up into small, fleshy balls. And then fall off. So yes, it has the measure of most supercars out there. "

It ends by saying it's almost too good so as not to be 'fun'.
