Anyone else seen this problem with their exhaust tips?

Has anyone else seen this problem with their exhaust tips? They appear to be hitting the top of the plastic sleeve in the bumper and melting it. I can't really take a proper picture to show it, but the tips are perfectly centered in the sleeve. For reference, I am running the Ford Racing GTX rear exit headers.

No problems here! I just replaced my plastic exhaust surround with a CF piece, pay the shipping and you can have my old one.

Dave, a local So. Cal bud is without cats as well as I think you are and you should see the flames shoot out of his tips. I'll bet thats your issue as well.

Same problem, except it melted the bottom plastic. It wasn't touching tho. I assume it was road vibration that facilitated the contact and consequent melting of the plastic.

Yeah, there's only an inch or so around it, and I am definitelty shooting flames out the back with 830bhp and straight through headers. I can hear it pop all the time when I driving and I back off. It's just melting that thing.

Sorry I wasn't clear. It's not touching the exhaust tips sitting still. There is about an even inch all the way around the tips. It's perfectly centered. Probably rubs whit I hit a spot in the road at a legal speed limit of 65mph. I think it gets so hot from the flaming, that when it hits the pipe on a "dip" in the road it rubs and then and melts that section it touches briefly. Abolfaz's carbon fiber replacement looks like it might keep that from happening. I would assume the melting point of stock part is quite low.

Gulf, I checked mine and its okay. I have borla exhaust, ford racing headers and took out the cats. I don't have that problem. Maybe I dont have as much fire out my rear end as you.

Having that Borla muffler in there on yours probably makes a difference. Anyway, I'm married to a Mexican (or should I say Sexican), and she cooks me lots of great food. That's likely why the more fire out my rear end.

Hey! Mexican gals arn't the only gals who can cook. My wife's Canadian & she knows her way around a kitchen too, lemme tell ya. Pbly the only difference is, I don't need the fire extinguisher! :lol

When the car is cold the exhaust tips are perfectly centered in the exhaust cut out that surrounds the tips and is attached to the bumber. As the exhaust tips heat up, they rise and touch the upper edges of the plastic and melt the plastic right in the area where the phillips head screws attach. I think that the solution is to move the exhaust tips lower so that as the tips heat up and rise they do not touch the upper lip. Unfortunately, I have not figured out a way to get to the retaining sleeve to loosen the nuts without dropping the diffuser pan. I ordered a trans cooler a few days ago and figured I would tackle both projects next weekend. PD

Tip movement when hot is a common problem on aftermarket viper exhaust systems. It sometimes takes off center placement when cold to fix the problem.
