Pure and simple, one of the great cars of this century......

I understand that maintenance is in another world from the FGT

A friend of mine has had a couple. It's a different car, rough, loud. He said maintenance wasn't as bad as what I had heard.

Owned a Carrera GT for a while (same time as my Ford GT). Sold it a few years ago. I prefer the Ford GT (obviously, as I still have mine). Carrera GT is a fabulous car in most respects. Very expensive to properly maintain and you definitely will want a technician who specializes in them. A thorough history and PPI is critical before buying one, as can easily spend $100k getting it fully serviced if maintenance was deferred or not done by a true CGT specialist. The Carrera GT is rated at around 600 hp (I am guessing = low 500s to rear wheels) - my Whipple Ford GT was much more powerful. Also, the Ford is easier to drive (clutch more user friendly) and much easier to maintain. That being said, the Carrera GT is a wonderful car and the V10 sounds simply amazing (especially with the top down). I wish I kept it with my Ford GT. Very good ones in GT silver (most common color) now a days are probably $750,000 USD. Rare colors can be a lot more $$.

There are some old posts on CGT here - try to find one by W. Mitty - great post

Have an 05 CGT , Great car no major issues but 9000 miles on it in the last 8 years service it myself . The sound is amazing fair, weather ride haven't put the top on in 5 years.
06 FGT with the Whipple whole lot of fun in a different way , takes little bit less time to service than the CGT.
2017 NFG great car , no issues and the easiest to service .

The FGTs get the attention at the local Cars and Coffee .
Blessed to have all of them in the garage .

It’s funny . I’ve had the NFT ; several 05-06s and a variety of McClarens, Ferraris and Lambos but the 06 GT continues at or near the top of the list.

I have 10k miles of seat time in a CGT. Great cars. The V10 wail is like F1 used to be. Expensive to service. Engine out service is necessary to adjust solid lifters. That‘s a min $30k. plus maybe cost of a clutch. Debatable if “engine out“ is on miles (30k) vs time (3 years). First gear “auto roll” confuses some drivers. Like the FGT...stick shift, analog, no electronic nannies. I sold mine after 7 years and 10k miles. Would rather hold onto my 2005 FGT.

Ohh thank you guys lots of info obviously , the car of my dreams was the ford gt and ive had it and been on the forum now for 11 years and will always have it , its never will and ever will go for sale ! Its what i always needed, but now the cgt is flirting with me and i really am intrested in driving it seeing how is it compared to our 06 gt’s i would hang on to it for probably 10 years n then sell it , what do you guys think of this ? And also im used to doing the maintenance of my own gt since 8 years ago didnt really ask me for anything and been good to me , i wonder how would it be if i plan to put probably a 1000 a year on. Cgt and still do the maintenance myself , wonder if it will be enough for it .

I've had my CGT for 11 years. My favorite car out of 11 super cars in the stable. Many don't like the knife edge neutral set up and prefer more understeer but I love it. Nothing can beat the sound. Prices have gone up lately but IMO there is still room to go if F40s are now $2M for 3000-5000 mile cars. maintenance hasn't been that bad for an exotic. It's a lot more expensive only because the Ford GT is unusually inexpensive.

Catching up, also a longtime owner. It was my second super car behind the 05 gt. To me, my favorite is the 05 but every time I drive the cgt I have to ask myself, are you sure? Lol. It’s such a great car with Porsche quality and analog. The sound track is amazing and there’s nothing to complain except taking off the line takes practice. Worth the minor gripe. I’ll never get rid of it or the 05. True icons.

If you can afford it keep both!
Although maintenance cost on the CGT is brutal!
Of course you’re on the Ford Gt forum so my thoughts are if I had to choose I’d have to keep the Ford GT

I put about 8,000 miles on my CGT. It's a very special car and it's all about the engine. The V-10 Wail is awesome. It makes power and torque everywhere. I had $25,000 Check Engine light, which resulted from a failed cam position sensor. Bottom line, it dumped raw fuel into the exhaust and cooked the cat and almost caught the car on fire. The left bank exhaust was red hot. That on top of a $30k engine out took the bloom off the rose. I like to drive my cars, but honestly got a little gun shy of driving my CGT. I love my '06 FGT. I've put 28,000 miles on it since new and plan to keep piling them on. They are both last of an era, analog supercars. The FGT is just as exciting to me to own and drive, if not more so.

Wow--what a sobering tale! I strongly considered a CGT before buying my 2005 FGT. I've never regretted the choice, but after reading about your eye-watering maintenance experience, I'm even MORE grateful for the bulletproof cars we have!

CGT service bills are more like $50-70k for periodic engine out/clutch service. Have heard of $100k bills for cars that sat a long time

Service wise,if you are in Kuwait City,I would find out if there are qualified mechanics who can perform an engine out service. If so,shop prices may be more reasonable than here.
