Hi guys-

First post here, was lucky enough to pick up my first GT over the last week. Amazing car.....as you guys already know!

I'm having a shop install a backup camera with the Gentex LCD mirror. As you guys know, doing something like this removes the dome lights. I saw some old posts about how some owners dealt with this, and it seems most elected to do what Shadowman showed in his thread. I'm trying to see if any of you were able to do something else, as the white plastic base of the dome used by Shadowman would seriously annoy the OCD part of me.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated!

However, the overhead light conversion kit was done by a member that doesn't participate much here any more. You could try to contact him directly.

Just coincidentally I will be adding one of the Gentex mirrors to my new Honda CRV. I've added, to date, 5 of these to my cars.

P.S. I contacted Gentex directly about them making a mirror with the lights and they said there wasn't enough volume for them to do so.

Hi Tony-

I saw that posting, but as I said in my post, I didn't like that install, because the base plastic of the light used is white, which looks terrible against the black headliner.

The mirrors have arrived and they do indeed look like they are very high quality.

It turns out that (when I bought my last one a few years ago) that Gentex makes all the self-dimming mirrors for all OEMs (they have the patent). They even make the ones for the GM OnStar products (that you can now buy OTC, e.g., from Best Buy). Lately I'm seeing someone else showing up but they don't have the breadth of products that Genetex does.

It's insane that in modern times that new cars don't come with a garage door opener included (except at the highest end). The Gentex homelink + self dimming is the best solution.

P.S. All new Hondas come with a back up camera. The new CR-V comes with a blind spot camera - signal a right turn and the main display shows a camera view of the right side. Spiffy.

You can paint the edges black before the install. I really never noticed. I have a Gentry mirror with homelink, compass and temperature. I use a screen on Kip's 2DIN for the backup camera.

If I would do it again I would spend some time searching for a light using LEDs. The filament bulbs burn hot and aren't energy conserving. :lol
