So, I have been storing this '65 GT coupe for a friend over the last 1.5 years and he made me a deal I couldn't turn down... So, last week I purchased her and delighted to have her in the family... a classic that the whole family can jump in and enjoy together....

Would love some opinions and or photoshopping done to see some ideas. I would like to break her up a little and add some sportiness or nostalgic look to her....

+1!!!!!!!

DON'T MESS WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!! It's just far too nice as it sits to do that...at least appearance wise.

A bit of extra "ruppity-rup" could be snuck in there with no one being any the wiser though! :biggrin

(I've always preferred the "plain wrapper", "sleeper" type builds anyway. EG: I'd LUV to have a stock appearing '55-'60 Nash Rambler 2 dr wagon powered THESE DAYS by a ZO6 427 [or a TT 383/388] small block, ZO6 6-spd, and a ZO6 IFS/IRS. THAT would be a killer "sleeper" 'far as I'm concerned. )

+2... Don't mess with it !! Looks way cool as is.... agreed on the under hood items ( MSD elec ignition, alum radiator etc..).... if you get bored, pull the motor and put a 347 or 427 stroker in...but leave the exterior as is. Kendall is just finishing my '77 bronco... all OG paint, patina , bumps and bruises outside... 347 stroked roller cam motor and built trans underneath !!

Cool car Tim. Are you sure it's a '65 though. It has a '66 dash and speedo. I wouldn't change it much either as I like it like it is.

You may want to confirm if it is a true GT. The main differences are as far as I know were the trumpet exhaust (which it has), fog lights, GT gas cap, 4 wheel disc brakes, and if Im not mistaken all had pony interior. Also, all GTs had A or K code vins. Thats easy to check. Very nice car, I always have loved the look of the 64-66 coupes (and the SOUND out of that trumpet exhaust!).

Just a question here not related to the above posts. Didn't all V8 cars have the faux chrome brake duct trim in front of the rear wheels? 65' was a straight bar and 66' had three finger extensions?

I know Shelbys did not have them though. Maybe he had them deleted prior to delivery.

Looks like a bench seat car!

Not a lot of those around.

My wife was driving a 67 bench seat Stang as her daily driver when we met.

No - just the hardtops and the convertibles, both 6 cylinder and V8's. The 2+2 fastbacks (type 63) never had the fake brake ducts in either year - '65 or '66.

Beautiful car Tim. If it was a GT it would have the Pony Interior, Pony style Door Panels, Rally packs, GT Wheels and a GT Gas Cap to start. Also, pull the valve covers off and see if the guides for the lifter are rectangular and not round. In my opinion it looks like a 66. As far as Mods go, engine Bay mods only in my humble opinion and may be a Shelby Fiber Glass Hood with the recommended Fog Lights.

BTW, I have an OEM Fog light switch somewhere around here if you want it.

Another easy distinguishing difference between '65 & '66 - the '66 has a switch in the globe box to activate the emergency flashing lights. Also, in California, a '66 would have the Thermactor Emission system which uses an air pump on an additional belt sheave off the water pump (though many of these systems have been removed).

Forgot about the fastbacks but I never saw a 6 cylinder with the faux ducts.

Learn something new every day. :biggrin

My comment about the GT accessories wasn't implying it was an orig GT. It has the trumpet exhaust so why not "clone" it the rest of the way? He said sporty and nostalgic and that would be.

The 66 "Sprint" Coupe 6cyl did not have the scoupe/strakes on the side either but the other 6cyl coupes did.

I completly agree and understand. I just thought I'd give STUNTS the heads up because he said it was a GT in the original post. Someday I want to buy a really rough 65-66 fastback and drop a supercharged 5.4 in it. THAT would be fun.
