Here is an interesting Ford GT blog about making the commercial that brings back some memories of February 1, 2004. I believe the 2004 Super Bowl XXXVIII Commercial?

Ford aired its first television commercials for the 2005 Ford GT during the Super Bowl XXXVIII pre-game show on February 1, 2004. A 30-second “teaser” ad and a 60-second commercial titled “The One” position the 200 mph, 500 horsepower supercar as the “pace car for an entire company.”

I remember seeing that video advertisement, my jaw dropping 2 cm and thinking to myself, "After 38 years I may have a chance to buy the car that to me was the most incredible looking, awesomely designed, and most famous car of my youth!" And all before I was too old to appreciate it! I had resigned myself to never owning a Ford GT40, because of rarity an original GT40 and lack of desire to invest and own a kit car. It was all memories fading away. That commerical stayed in my head for 27 months and endless serching and turndowned offers until I took possesion of my FGT. Best car buying day of my life.

I trust I am not alone in reliving this memory or appreciation for the incredible piece of technology, style and performance, that continues the great heritage of this American Car Company :cheers

That commercial is what pushed me over the edge too. When I saw the GT "dirt trackin' " around turns on blacktop(!), I knew my F-car & Lambo "options" had just gone completely out the window.

From that point on, it was simply a matter of waiting until the dealer's asking prices came down to earth.

E Pockets, I had the same experience. I noticed my local Ford Dealer had a white 05 blue striped GT for sale, he had had it there for a period of 6 months, asking quite a significant premium. I took a picture across the street at night as shown below. I came back into the store a month later and offered them sticker because the potantial buyer had not come through. They told me to wait 3 days and if nothing was heard from the 1st buyer, I could buy the 05 GT. I came back in 3 days later to find that the buyer came up with the funds and I was out of luck. I asked if they had anymore coming in, they said an 06 Tungsten in about 3 weeks. I offered them sticker right then and there and the owner took my offer. When the car hit the showroom they had 10 offers in one day, but I had signed the papers and the car was mine. I made them a large 3 ft x 2.5 ft poster of their dealership in the 60s, and all the important photos I could find of the 1st win of the GT40 Le Mans triumph on June 19, 1966 including pictures of the drivers, the cars, the winning times, number of laps, the finishing order etc. (See below). They were so impressed with my artwork effort they reciprocated by having Ford print an original photo of the start of the 1967 Le Mans with the six GT40s and had it framed. They gave me the framed picture at 4 PM on June 19th, 2006 at the dealership. 40 years to the day and time (west coast time) of the 1st Le Mans win. I had just landed from London, (night before attended the Eagles Band Concert at Wembley Arena), and made it to the dealership with my FGT exactly on time. I have become one of the family at my local Ford Dealership.

Some great memories from a great dealership and a great company.

The commercial blew me away as well and was my inspiration to buy this incredible machine. However, being a man of modest means, I had to wait until premium pricing faded and hence the car to become more reasonably attainable.

Atomic: One local dealer had KIND OF the same experience...but it didn't work out that well for them. 'Long & short of it was: they BOUGHT their '05 white/blue from another dealer in the summer of '05...'reportedly paid 'em $195K for it... put it "up for bids" from the day they recieved it at their showroom...one guy "won" the bidding at $275K - and he never came thru with the money (another "poser"). Nobody else would step up for anywhere NEAR the money - partly, I think, because the word had gone out that the car at been "bought", so everybody ELSE interested in buying one went elsewhere 'figgering' it was a done deal. To this day it sits under a tarp (or whatever) in one of their storage bldgs. (I've posted the dealer's name & 'number several times here on the 'Forum and 'Forum members have called 'em about the car, but they've evidently always wanted too much relative to the mkt at the time.)

I went out 2C that GT about 2 months B4 I bought my blue/white. AT THAT TIME, they'd have sold it to me for "sticker" - and 'hinted at selling it for less! - just to "get out from under", I guess (WHY they then subsequently went back to demanding a premium over sticker from other inquirers I have NO idea). But, I really had my heart set on a blue/white and 'just couldn't talk myself into the reverse color combo. At the time, this car had less than 100 miles on it (which the dealer himself had put on it), and I doubt it has much over that now.

'Sure can't be doing that car any good just being stored away...

Screensaver

For those of you who don't have the original screensaver that was downloadable from Ford, send me an e-mail ([email protected]) or a pm and I'll send it back to you.

It's about 1 MByte in size and an .exe file, so it won't upload here.

Or, you can do a search for it - it's name is "ford_gt_screensaver.exe"

Those two videos just continue to blow me way, I think they are so well done, especially the 30 second one, quiet and then a rush of engine and exhaust sounds. Incredible, just awesome!

If you right click on the 60 second movie and the 30 second teaser links in the first thread above, then hit "Save Target As" you get an option to save the videos to a folder on your computer, and you then can download both movies in .wmf format.

Probably worth having in the long run! Sounds like an Eagles Song!
