i just bought an AC Hydraulic floor jack for my garage. it has a very low profile and is long enough to reach under the side of the GT to easily reach the middle jack point that lines up with the door lock.

Pelican Parts just started carrying them again at a competitive price. when i owned my Porsches, i shopped there often. here is the link for anyone who is interested:

Do you already have it? Please let us know how it works. Certainly looks worthwhile.

I finally broke down and got a low jack too

Nice not to have to put the car on the lift, just to change wheels

I bought a fairly low profile, lightweight floorjack at Harbor Freight for $59.99. In order to get it fully under the GT at the jacking points I just drive the car onto a block of wood (one wheel forward or back just enough to get on the block) and it rolls right under. You can change tires or whatever and just lower back onto the block when done.

Used to do that. I considered it enough of a PITA to get the low jack.

I used to do that with another car, but when I got the FGT I got a 4 post with 2 rolling jacks, much easier. I hate crawling on the floor trying to locate lift points!

I currently use this jack. It is NOT light weight but it is very low. Also, shipping was free when I got it... that is at least another $100.

Now for the bad...
I bought a low profile aluminum Torin jack, failed a couple months after the warranty expired. Had probably only used it 4 or 5 times to get the wheels off to clean.

Try that on the side of the road! I can carry my jack & block with me.

What Model did you purchase?

Thanks,

If you are asking me, it is a U.S. General Aluminum Racing Jack model# 67408 from Harbor Freight.

I bought the DK13HQL, 2800 lb capacity low profile unit. I used it yesterday along with another low profile Jack I own. The AC unit is much longer than my other Jack, and the low profile section extends about 16 inches, so it can reach the lift points easier. I never have been a fan of using rampsor wood blocks to drive on.

The only thing I don't like about the AC Jack is it is difficult to "feather" the jack down from a lifted position. I sure when I get used to the handle, I can lower the car slowly. But a mental note to myself was "make sure you are ready for the car to come down".

I've owned the DK13HQL for about 8 years and you never get used to how fast it goes down. I'm very careful about not letting it come down too fast and it almost always surprises me. The jack handle sticks a little when trying to release the jack. When it finally releases, you have put too much pressure on the handle and it turns too far and releases too fast.

Never had that problem with my $59 "racing" jack and block of wood....seriously.:biggrin

This is the jack that I just purchased (Model 29023 from Omega or Blackhawk). It will reach all the lifting points on my Gal with no problem and she is lowered. This is were I found the best price:

I have the Omega as well, works great and can get anywhere under the GT with ease. I wrapped the wheels with black Gorilla tape to keep the steel wheels from scratching my epoxy floor.

i saw that same side-by-side comparison between the Omega & AC jacks. i almost went with the Omega about a year ago prior to getting my GT (i had two other low profile cars).

But once Pelican began stocking them again, i thought of all the years of great customer service i had received from Wayne at Pelican, plus the great source of technical knowledge that bulletin board had been to me, and i decided to send the business to Pelican.

Pelican's price for the AC was around $200 cheaper than another vendor i was looking at.

JKR, That's a great comparison. I don't think they produced the Model 29023 from Omega or Blackhawk when I purchased my AC. I like the AC except for how fast it releases. I'm getting better at releasing it slowly, but I still get surprised sometimes. The Omega may be a better choice now.

How is the release action on the Omega jack?
