I'm all for a progressive long term increase in gas taxes, as long as its balanced by a reduction in income tax that at a maximum maintains current revenues. Obviously, we are taxed way too much, and more importantly, what revenues are generated are wasted. I can choose to drive a car with better gas mileage, I can't choose to not pay federal income tax :lol No excuse for anybody with low income to bitch when they have to pay more because they drive a Hummer, and those who can afford it will continue to do so. Better than 35% off the top. I can't wait to see what fun increases coming in the next session!

We pay over 50% of our income in sales tax, income tax, excise tax - this tax, that tax, thumb tax and tax on the tax. Study after study has shown that. (We needed a "study" to tell us that????) Yet, gov't continues to demand MORE - and WASTE more.

Even the supposedly fiscally CONSERVATIVE(???) GOP is spending money like there's no tomorrow. Bush never vetoed one stinkin' spending bill 'his whole term! The PORK continues flow just as if the Democraps had been runnin' things all along. AND, YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT "NEXT SESSION'! Oh, dear God!!! I don't wanna THINK about it!

Last year my gas station paid over $2,000,000.00 in total taxes (fuel, property, sales, employment, FICA, income, +++). The govt. collected over 6 times what I made from my business. I do all the work, they get most of the money.:bored :thumbsdow :frown

There was a post I saw on the 'net the other day LISTING all the taxes we all pay these days ( well, those who EARN a living, that is) THAT DIDN'T EVEN EXIST 100 YRS AGO. That list would choke a horse. I mean, crap, you've pbly never even HEARD OF half of them!

Like I've said for the last 30-40 years, there are those in gov't who's SOLE PURPOSE IN LIFE is to lay awake at nite & dream up NEW ways to milk the public for the gain of THEIR OWN campaign contributors and, therefore, fund their own re-election. THEIR POCKETS come FIRST. The country & the taxpayer are considered only when ABSOLUTELY necessary ... or, most often, as the result of purely accidental coincidence only.

All politicians should be taken out and shot just on general principles. (Watch "homeland Security" pay me a visit for THAT statement!!!!) They lie like rugs to get elected, "raise their hands to take the oath" ... then HOLD OUT THEIR HANDS 24/7/365 every day thereafter. And you & I pay thru the nose funding it all.

If you don't believe the above, ask yourself, "Why would someone spend MILLIONS to be elected to a "job" that pays $150K a year (or you name the salary) - and do so election after election - if there weren't a lotta "perks" (hidden and otherwise) in it for 'em on top of that?:shrug

This was driving me nuts - so I called my daughter (who lives in the Valley).

"Pavillion" IS the name of the shopping center @ Indian Bend & the "101".

It is good - any given saturday night there are alll kinds or rods and muscle cars. Anyone coming out for Barret-jackson should go there. It is at the McDonald's at the 101 freeway and Indian Bend. Starts getting busy by 3:00 pm, full by 6:00, gone by 9:00pm.

No, it wasn't me. This guy was caught by photo cameras in scottsdale AZ at 102, 105, 127 and 147 in a rented Hyundai Sonota. Plead down to aggresive driving class, 1 year probation and 7 days in jail. Could have faced 6 months in jail. Not sure why the prosocution did a plead deal since he was on camera. Hyundai technican testified that the car could actually go that fast, although another article disputes that.

The stupid thing is we all (well, I guess not all) know the cameras are there. Go fast, slow down for the camera, speed back up. Local controversy is whether or not the cameras actually slow down traffic and make the freeway safer. True, cars went slower in those spots (duh), but safer becomes the question.

The cameras are only on a small section of the highway - however they are all over the streets (mobile) and even some of the intersections not only have red light cameras, but also check speed so if you go through them too fast, say hello to ticket mail.

Ever read the book "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand? One of my all time favorite reads.

Just an FYI, they are apparently finally turning AS into a movie in 08. To my chagrin, they've apparently cast Angelina Jolie as Dagny Taggart, and possibly Brad Pitt as JG. Boooooooo.....

Not only is Angelina Jolie a terrible actress, but when I think of Dagny Taggart and the physical representation of the character, she's about the farthest thing from it. In my head, the closest thing to her today would be Cate Blanchette. I know Tomb Raider 1 & 2, Taking Lives, Mr and Mrs Smith, Life or Something Like It, etc, represent a fine body of work ( :bored ) but why ruin such an iconic literary character just for big lips and a chest?

A bit like casting Leo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz opposite Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York. Completely and totally overmatched.

p.s, I think they should cast Florida Chris as JG :lol

I always kind of pictured her as Ann Baxter, kind of small and girlish, flat chested. I don't know enough of today's actresses to pick someone for the part. I'd rather be driving and waxing than watching films.
