2005 GT sells for $150k at Barrett-Jackson

You know this year there actually have been some "bargains" at the auction. I have been watching it and several late 60s Vettes sold for under 100K , which belive it or not, for matching number big block cars, that is a helluva price and even with the commission is substantially lower than it should be.

I guess it just depends who is there and what they are looking for. After seeing that the last few days, I am definitely going to the one in Palm Beach

Someone should write to Speed that they focus to much on the middle age guys with pot bellys and the freaky bidders asst's with hair extensions/toupees. they should show the car!

'FUNNY YOU SHOULD SUGGEST THAT!
I DID THAT VERY THING THIS MORNING!:lol
( "great minds...")

Really not an attractive crowd.

Its an auction, they should show the car!

That is 2 funny....but so true.....On the state of the auction, have you guys noticed that the market has started to cool.....I saw a 12,000 mile 70 Hemi cuda sell for 250k, last year that car would of fetched over 450K, and also some of the big block vette's are taking a beating.....A lot of talk in the last couple of years has been about the Boss 429, and why they were so undervalued..compared to the 60/70 hemi cuda. Look at them now. I know a few sellers that did actually buy their cars back..rather than sell them at a 100k or more loss compared to last year when they purchased them.

Will be interesting to see if this trend will keep .....as far as GT's? Most of us did not buy them to resell, so it is the enjoyment that matters, not the buck...but if i have to take a guess....the GT has everything positive going for it...I will bet that in about 2 or 3 years the prices will begin to escalate....20 years from now...they will be at the top of the heap...my feelings, based on personal experience.

Except 20 years from now you might not be able to buy gasoline. Never a problem for the classics today.

2005 Bj Gt

I saw and checked the car in the tent before sale. The GT had 2000 miles on it and noone was ever around it while in the tent before sale. It wasn't that clean and shiny and was only wiped off when it rolled upon stage. I thought it brought a reasonable price considering the sale was bringing ,I thought mostly low prices on most cars except for a few. BJ knew they would set records look at the top quality of cars and the number ran through (over 1200 in 5 days)! Tomy Hamon

Whatever those cars hammered for was the market at BJ at the minute they went over the block. Obviously on Saturday there was a mixed bag, the Kurtis hammers for more than $500k, the Allard with a near Peeble Beach restoration brings only $110k. Last year an LS6 Vert with great drag racing history brings $1m+ and this year the sister cars fights for a $110k hammer. That is an auction for you, take only two motivated buyers. Lots of disappointed consignors, lots of auction tarts being driven or should I say pushed across the block. Great cars brought great monies, the street walkers like always did not pass close scrutiny.

Does anyone know what the Superformance Ford GT40 kit went for? Speed didn't air it, but I think it was either before or after the Black Jack 2005 Ford Mustang. :thumbsup

If I remember correctly, I think it went for $165K.

Black Superformance GT-40 Roush Special

GT-40 Superformance brought $165,000 across the block. This car looked great and sounded even better but still was a KITand even built by Roush. Tomy Hamon

The B-J car was an '05 with slightly over 2,000 miles. I was on the stage and overheard numerous envious comments about the car. This was a typical B-J result for a car like the GT. Gavel Price 150. Buyer pays 165. Seller receives 138. B-J makes 27. In other words, the Buyer overpaid, the Seller was underpaid and B-J was the only winner.

To be fair, the car is made by HighTech Industries in Port Elizabeth to a very high standard, has the rights to be called a GT40, will be in the SAAC registry. This one was very nice, the price was very tall. You should be able to duplicate it for $135k, but there is a long wait and Jack Roush's autograph would be missing.
