196 with stock blower

Awesome job and getting the record for the stock blower pulley and tune... That last run we could hear it from the line RIPPING through the gears :biggrin

would personally recommend if you want a new throttle body that you get ahold of John over at Accufab to get one before the OCT race :cheers

You could come out there next time with a better tune and C16 and run 190 because of the wind direction being a headwind.

I agree the conditions would have to be otimum. A little luck goes a long way. I doubt we will ever see conditions like March 2009 again, but if we have some similar to last Sunday in October I think I have a fighting chance.

The stock 5 year old Goodyears that came on the car.

It wasn't designed for the heat output generated by faster spinning stock pulleys, or bigger Whipple blowers. The results are that the discharge air temps will rise to the point where timing must be pulled and the power drops off when compared to the dyno sheet.


To summarize, when all of the stars are aligned a Whipple only car with a constant 750HP driven well can do 200+ in the mile. In less than stellar conditions one needs more HP coming down the home stretch (last 1/2 mile).

Now I am bummed, because I only have a Whipple and I would need the stars to be aligned to join the 200 club. At Mojave that is almost impossible :(

I do not totally agree. The Cooling system on the GT is extremely good if you compensate for the Texas Mile conditions in the tune. After my mid day run on Friday (hottest time of the weekend) I popped the clamshell as soon as I got to the pits and stuck my finger in the intercooler resevior. It was barely luke warm. I was really surprised. There are a few tricks you can do to really help optimize the GT system for this event. I had Van Collier the owner of Revin Racing with me (he designs all the heat exchangers and radiators for Shelby's cars) and he help my car out quite a bit. I believe the time Jon Lund spent personally dyno tuning my car was insturmental, but Revin's input working with him making adjustments to the cooling system kept the power in the car for the entire mile.

I was 4 mph off 200mph and was no where near 750 hp. I think you only need one or two stars to line up with a Whipple if your tune is right!

Thanks! It was great meeting you and seeing your car run. We were really pulling for you. I appreciated the tips on placement of the tape and you along with your crew is welcome in my pit any day! Will definitley call on John that throttle body. See you in October!!

what did you run on Friday and Saturday? Friday had a headwind and Saturday had a crosswind. Sunday had a good tailwind which gave all cars 4-7mph.

I slowly got better throughout the entire weekend. After every run we were tweaking and saw improvement each time.

On Friday we were playing with shift points. I made a run skipping 3rd and a run skipping 4th (on purpose). Also at different shift points(6500,6750, 7000). 6750 was the sweet spot. Was running in the high 180's.

All the runs on Friday were at 18psi in the rears. Saturday tried different air pressures (43.5 seemed the best). Did some minor taping on the car and broke into the 190's.

Taped the crap out of it on Sunday and she really flew. Best weather was early Sunday morning (tailwind) and cool. I was the first car to run and I ran a 194.8. Mid day Sunday wind had shifted to slight crosswind and it warmed up, but was pretty still when I ran and I pulled the 196, but I speed shifted that run. Wind seemed to shift back that afternoon to a HEAVY tailwind, but I already had the car untaped and was about 4 beers down after my 196 so I did not run again.

Weather does play a big part, but there are lots of places to pick up a few MPH on these cars.

You are 100% right. I ran my 196 after lunch and it was a heavy sidewind. There was a tail wind in the morning and seemed to come back right before they shut the track down..

They were the tires that came on the car. I am running a 2.8 upper and the Innovators West lower balancer. TB is still stock. I really feel the mph came from the tuning. Thanks go out to Lund Racing for the tune and also to Revin Racing for all there help with the car. I was running C16 also.

I feel good about running 194.96 MPH on my daily driver , every day ,very conservative tune running 93 octane gas out of a Chevron pump I put in just before the event. :biggrin
Bridgestones on the rear only. Original tires on the front

You should! Thats flying. What size are your bridgestones? DO they feel much better than the Goodyears? Do you really daily drive your GT?
