On high performance tires, tread depth can be misleading. Not sure how much this applies to our tires, but on race tires it's the number of heat cycles that counts. Too many and they will have no grip. So if your car doesn't seem to have the same grip it used to, that could be the problem too.
'75 Corvette in Wrapper
Anyone see the reruns of Barret Jackson? There was a 1975 (or 8?) Corvette Indy Pace car edition. 111 miles. Owner said he would start it once a month and maybe move it. The guys were talking (and this is from memory and probably not accurate) that the original price was...
Warranty through Geico
Geico has a program for when you buy a new car you can add a mechanical warranty for a really low price. I forget what it is, but maybe 20 or 40 every 6 months? Of course if you sell the car you get nothing, but that is true with all warranties. I think they really...
Thanks for the info. Ordered a cooltech charger. Anyone know if the cigarette lighter adapter will work on a '73 truimph spitfire that is clogging my garage? (worried about polarity or who knows what else...)
A few years back I was considering getting an f430. I was in Vegas so I went to the Wynn hotel where they have a showroom you can see for 10 bucks or something. They have maybe 15-20 cars on either side of an underground garage. I walked up and down the garage and then asked the girl why they...
Considering that most people in the public eye would answer, "because we don't pay teachers enough" her answer might not be so bad. Kids don't care about learning, and neither do most parents, and not many teachers can overcome that.
In my opinion most schools don't give you enough seat time. Three laps isn't going to teach you much. I would do a school, but then try to find a good open track day with a good group (porche club is strict) so that it's safe to be out there and you get a lot of seat time. Most track days you'll...
I could only get one weekend on hoosiers on my viper. And there is nothing worse then showing up Saturday morning and your tires have no grip. Once their done, they have no grip even if plenty of tread left. Dangerous driving to the track (I did) but I had to put the spare on at least twice as...
"I lose money on almost every gallon I sell."
In my town Super Fuels is at 2.96, Terribles, AM/PM, Maverick, Smiths are at 2.99. The poor Chevron owner on the corner with Smiths (up to .15 discount with groceries) and Maverick (.03 discount card) has a price of 3.28. I estimate his cost at...
I love owning a gas station
I own an Exxon station. I lose money on almost every gallon I sell, and my competitors are selling fuel retail for .20 to .25 less a gallon then I buy it wholesale. And everyone sees the news stories and thinks I'm ripping them off. Fun business....
Venture Shield in Phoenix
Talked to Lexshield in Phoenix. There are 4 kits and they are saying $950 for all installed. Estimate install at 5 hours. They make a good point that they do this all day long. Just an FYI unless you know something bad about these guys.
Wheelspin just means they didn't get the aero right. See Car and Driver in the 80's testing a calloway camaro on the salt flats. Kept feeling wheel spin but for the last run of the day kept his foot in it and the car went end over end many times.
Whatever car these people have isn't production...
I still haven't figured out how I have a chip on the top of both fenders. Happened on different trips, but really, where did they come from? And how do you fix a paint chip by yourself? I really hate to have the car repainted or even painted in that area?
