Has anybody else had luck reanimating dead gauges using tfuith's method? mardyn

    Gauge Replacement - How to

Success! The tips listed are invaluable to this process... my only other suggestion would be to double up on the tape on the left hand side of the dash binnacle as it's really tight coming out on that curved area, take lotso' pics, which I did... My total time this morning on it was probably...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

A ship on the horizon..... Help may be on the way to our gauge weary GT owners. I participated today in a good conversation with two principals from a specialty gauge manufacturer that may be interested in taking up our plight. They've been following this issue for a while now and can see a...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

As I recall, some one posted about gauge failures in Ford E series vans related to RFI from some source on board.... the amp would seem to be a plausible source to me. mardyn

Good news on the GT guage repair!

Any movement what-so-ever on this topic is welcome news.... please keep us posted on any progress. Could you ask your friend about the possibility of changing out the guts from our GT gauges to something else compatible and reliable from another (Ford?) dash... I suspect there could be a good...

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

I'm still chasing one over here in NE Texas... made the rounds of several Sears stores last week... still, the most recent one they have was date coded 4/10.... I'm back at square one, but I do have a nice Ford GT Optima to use in my ski boat this year. Woo Hoo! mardyn

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

Crap, crap, crap, freakin' crap.... New PC1400T Odyssey battery is slightly too tall and the inner tub wont seat down all the way. (appears to need the PC1230 version rather than the 1400 as the Odyssesy application guide indicates) Back to the drawing board. mardyn

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

Well, I pulled the trigger on a new PC-1400T, through Jegs, shipped direct from Odyssey for 273.00 delivered. I'm now hoping for a miraculous recovery of my dead gauges with the installation of the new power cell....although I'm not holding my breath. mardyn

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

Good find IGT... Oct 2010 is a pretty good date... much better than I found so far. According to a lady I spoke with yesterday at one of the battery distributors, the batteries are made in batches... and they may be between runs on this particular version which would account for older dates...

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

No code as I understand it, just a simple date sticker on the side of the case. Some mfgs use a letter code for the date: A= Jan, B = Feb, C = March... etc. Newest I've been able to locate around here (DFW) is 4/10, plus several older versions dating back to 08 still on the shelf waiting to be...

Platinum Diehard battery for the FGT

I've been shopping for the elusive AGM Platinum Diehard 028500080000 for my car. Seems like there are plenty of 'em sitting on the shelves of Sear Automotive Centers around my area... but they've ll been there for quite a while. The latest one I can find is date coded April 2010... so it's been...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

I tried to contact Autometer direct regarding our FGT gauge problem several months back.... got ZERO response, not even the courtesy of an automated email saying "we received your request". I'm still dead in the water over here with my GT... it remains quite frustrating. mardyn

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

I too doubt the validity of the bad /low battery as cause of failure... if the battery has enough reserve to spin/start the engine.. it certainly should have enough to initialize the gauges. I suspect that the cause is actually poor quality & overly fragile design from the gauge mfg used in an...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

Dave, I really appreciate your efforts on behalf of those of us with this problem. My guess is that many owners are like me... I've got three dead gauges in my car as I type this entry. I don't want to take them out and replace them until we have a definitive answer on the cause of the...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

That dash-daq device looks like an interesting solution.... if (big IF) it can interface with the GT's processor. The idea that our GT's gauge failure issues is a minor, isolated incident is absurd to me. If they had this kind of failure rate across one of the major car lines, Ford would be...

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

Yeah, I like that idea too... I was considering mounting an aux gauge panel in the engine bay that could be seen in the rear view mirror while underway. Your thoughts about changing the gauges in the dash is probably right on... particularly if only as a temporary fix. mardyn

So.... anybody ready to start talking about alternative gauges for the FGT?

My initial thoughts are to just use a similar Autometer 2 5/8" analog gauge(s) and not to disturb any of the OEM dash wiring harness... once there is a viable solution to the failure problem, I would install new replacement gauges. Shelby, have you seen any of your cars come through with...
