I'm not sure I know what the replacement A-Arms look like.

Are these the standard or the replacements? If they are standard could someone post a pic of the billet A-Arms? Thanks

Hey Fubar you need to bring that over immediately and let me replace those with the nicer stock ones..those billet arms just don't look right on your car.

Bastard!

Those are the replacements. You can tell by the etching as they were milled out of solid billet aluminum.

Look at me... I'm doing the happy dance :willy

Fubar - those are the Billet'ed ones. They were used as replacement from model #1 (the recall), through production into late 2005. You can tell by the milling lines in the stock. A forged one is smooth and there no milling lines.

My '05 #1830 still has the billet'd control arms like yours :banana

Yes my black stripe delte has the billet arms. They are a work of art. Mine is a late '05. Gotta love it

We have a BLUE / White 05 in stock that has the Billet A Arms. It is the 3rd car we have had in with them. I must say they look much nicer than the others. :thumbsup

It's too bad they are so hidden.

Early 2005's

Not sure if the CNC arms went into "late" '05's. My notes indicate the first 283 production cars were part of the recall campaign which if they made approximately 2000 2005 units would be only the EARLY 2005's.
I know they do not build the cars and serialize sequentially but this is still a small population early into the 2005 model year production run.

And yes, Fubar they look terrific!!

Indy, it's time to update your poor notes. '05 #1297 has the billet arms, built in June, 2005. They made a bunch of them and used up the batch they made until they ran out. MAD also has them. I would guess that the "special edition" tungsten (lower case for emphasis) would not have them. Jealousy will get you nowhere. I don't think we know exactly what number car they quit on.

Thanks Frank

Frank, you very well may be correct.

Undoubtedly when Ford discovered the A-arm problem and resorted to the billet arm fix they started making a pile of them not really knowing how many they would have to replace AND they halted (well really ramped way down) new 2005 car deliveries to get the delivered ones back into driving condition. Remember the early cars went for big $ and the owners were pissed they could not dirve their cars until the A-frames were replaced (safety issue).

Perhaps Ford had delivered 283 cars when they announced the recall and after they fixed the early defective units continued regular production of the stockpiled billet units until the current forgings came on line to support the line.

Ok, so I will update my notes per your recommendation!!!

I can tell you that '05 #1375 has the billet pieces too. Build date: June 23, '05. I may be partial, but the '05 has got the best looking parts. :thumbsup

I don't know the exact number they switched on, but yes, they replaced the A-arms on the first few hundred that were already delivered with the cast arms (that were prone to cracking). They knew they could fix the impurity problem that was causing the cracking, but Ford also knew it would take several months, and they didn't want to halt GT production and delivery in the meantime.

So Ford bit the bullet (billet?) and decided to simply machine the A-arms from solid billet aluminum until the original aluminum casting process was fully updated. "Yeah, but that sounds expensive." It was. I've heard it added approximately $10K to the cost of each car with those arms. And you were thinking the $10,000 price bump toward the end of 2005 production was a coincidence, right?

Those A-arms are works of art. EXPENSIVE works of art. Sad to think of all the crumpled 2005s with those on them. Even if they've been fixed, and even if they were fixed properly, they didn't get no billet A-arms as replacement suspension pieces, I can assure you.

In fact, there's one way to know if a car has been wrecked. If it's a 1,700 VIN or earlier 2005 and it DOESN'T have the billet A-arms, something be up...

Good thinking. Great tip.

1754 has the billet A-Arms.

Mitch

Also if any car has non-matching A-arms, that would be a give away about a repair.

My August 05 #1564 red has the billet A arms.....

Hello,

My rear upper control arm has come loose and possibly cracked; my local mechanic told me that it needs replacing. Any idea where I could get the parts? or the part number?

The local dealer (Kuwait) isn't of much help.

Hello Mishref! Where did you spring from?! Welcome....

Come loose and cracked? Could you post a pic maybe?

I think Roush in the UK might be able to supply you with the parts you need - do you have their details?

Neilda,

Thanks, We got a good offer on the GT, and after you see it you can't refuse a Ford GT.

I had the tires pulled and the control arms inspected.

The car started pulling to the right and we took it to our local genius mechanic. It turns out the rear right upper control arm came loose, and possibly driven on for a month.

We checked with Ford-USA and the car is not on the control arm recall list (thankfully).

My mechanic was able to attach it and re-tighten it, he also recommended replacing the upper rear control arms because it might have been damaged.

I am wondering if I should replace it and if so, where should I get the parts from.
