If you go to Yahoo! News on the 'net, you'll see an article on a new 50,900 s.f. house being built in West Hartford, Conn. And, of COARSE, predictably, that duzzunt set well with some. One in specific - a 'Prof. Susan Eisonhandler' - whines in the article about whether this size home is an excusable expenditure in light of all the poor people in the country, etc., etc.

The article goes on to specifically compare building a house this size to buying a $150,000 car when a $25K car can serve the purpose just as well (Oh, no it CAN'T!!!). So, I guess WE'RE all bads guys too far as these feel gooders are concerned.

Surprise, surprise. :thumbsdow

What on earth makes her think giving money to poor people will help them? My mothers side of the family could win the lottery, and be back on welfare/food stamps within 3 months.

50K sq ft is a little excessive. IMO 8-10k sq ft is larger than any normal person needs...of course a marble floored 20 car garage with every tool and a couple lifts have to be attached to it.

My friend had a 16k sq. ft. house with secret passages made during the roaring 20's.... the north wing housed the servants, had a breakfast room, a 30+ person catering dinner room, walk in freezer and refrigerator, 2 dance floors, 3 full bars, 2 with the dance floors, a wood shop, massive center staircases, a library.. 2 laundry rooms, 3 living rooms... one on each floor... Piano room, Music room misc., another music room....

I can't begin to think of all that was there.

Can't even imagine 50k sq ft.... but it must be cool!.... my friends' house was VERY cool... in Detroit... sold for 600k last year.. great deal...... oh, it also had a "9 car garage" and 1/2 acre of grass/shrubs etc.

Sounds like Pelosi :biggrin

Anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area for 600K you would not find a house in an area where you would feel safe letting your kids play outside, 9 car garage forget it!

...Pardon me while I adjust my soapbox... Ah! There!

Now...

As Andy Rooney might say, 'ever notice it's always people who CAN'T AFFORD a large house who make the biggest fuss over people who do have 'em?!

'Kinda like they're trying to create the impression that the only reason THEY DON'T HAVE ONE is due soley to their 'concern' over the 'immorality' :bs of living in something like that (if that makes any sense to you). That, and the fact that this P.C., 'morality based' stand helps justify their own station in life - if only to THEM. "I'm making all the money one needs. I intend to live simply so others may simply live." (MAN!!! Do we need a "hurl" icon!!!)

It's kinda the same thing as when bald guys tell those who HAVE hair, "You need to get a haircut!" :lol

This is NOT to say there arn't people out there who live in much smaller places than they COULD - but simply choose not to for whatever reason. God knows there are plenty of THEM as well. (Warren Buffet is pbly THEE prime example.)

...And this concludes "psych 101" for this evening, kiddies. Remember: there's a quiz on Tuesday.

I always felt safe there, even though my car was stolen from in front of their 'house' :P

(we later chased my stolen car in my friend's Porsche through the streets of Detroit at 3am... )

In reality, the building of the house is employing people for the construction & those who produce the materials. When its complete, it will employ many for the up keep. Its always better to provide jobs with a steady income, than to just donate money that will be quickly spent, where you end up back a square one anyway!

Agreed, we get a monthly call to go to an all you can eat seafood buffet, and another monthly call asking for grocery money......you can guess what times of the month each event occurs.....and anyone who thinks I feel sorry for a family that smokes, drinks, and goes to a place where you dump $20 on a meal....and then cant afford groceries, is crazy! :thumbsdow
