Water Temp Gage Stuck at 160

My water temp. gage is stuck at 160 degrees. First it would just not cool below 160 degrees. Now, a week later, it will not rise above 160 either. Does this sound electrical or mechanical? All other gages work fine. Does it sound like the gage or the temp. pick ups in the water line? Any ideas?

Does the gauge sweep when you initially turn the key on and then go to the 160 mark and stay there?

No. It is frozen. I tried disconnecting the battery and waiting 45 min. Did nothing. I will try the trickle charger for a couple days and disconnect again. I'm starting to think it is not electrical.

If frozen that I would simply order and plan to install or schedule the dealer to install a new gauge. My gut tells me that this is the issue.

As for level of difficulty; now that FreeFlyer walked me through the process during the installation of his VERY cool OEM appearing boost/vacuum gauge I would gladly offer the same for you.

The process to swap will likley take a hour or so and then .... "SMILES" again

I have had an erratic reading oil pressure gauge from about day 10 (about a year and a half ago). I own an OBD-II scanner system made by AutoEnginuity and it displayed two error codes, an abnormally high and low oil pressure sensor voltage. This correlates well with the crazy readings I observe on the gauge. So now, I know NOT to replace the gauge, but the sender instead. Hopefully this will be done by tonight. I will do a full report on this later...

The reason why I mentioned this is that a scanner similar to mine can monitor your water temp in real time and this can assist in troubleshooting the problem, in your case a bad gauge OR computer. I also must make a confession at this point. I never expect an auto dealer to repair anything that I own. Meaning, when I purchase a car, I expect to do all repairs myself. How did I develop this attitude? Simple, I bought an 1983 DeLorean brand new. Nuf said?

Your dealer should have no problem with this one!

Well, we were right. It was a mechanical failure. Dealer is installing a new gage. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm new here. I noticed that the oil pressure fluctuates a lot, even when maintaining a constant RPM. Is this normal Doctor?? Should I feed it two Asprins?

Take two asprin and then you will likely need to replace or have replaced the oil sending unit; a situation that a few others have also experienced.

A minor issue and easy fix as such be tended too.

Got it back yesterday. In addition to the gage, the dealership had to replace the bezel that all switches are attached to because they scratched it when removing the gage face plate. The new plastic bezel comes with all the switches attached and.....are you reaady for this?.......cost $3,200. So, all of you that are thinkinng of tinkering with your gages, be very careful when removing the face plate. The dealership said that this is a fairly dificult task to do without scratching the bezel.

Anyway, looks great and running great.

As for the removing of the cluster; I can share from personal experience that my first time through the process it was "interesting" and yet after chatting with FreeFlyer during which he shared a few tips the last several times that I have had instrument clusters out it was NBD

As for scratching the bezel and the associated risk; it is truly minimal at best if it is removed properly however the service manaul does not share this information so for many it will be a one time only situation as such I suggest that you as anothher that has wal;ked this path before you.

Now with regards to the bezel being sold only with the switches in place; all I can say is WOW. Now I wonder; does this mean that for a replacement switch one must purchase a complete bezel?

In any case I am truly very happy that your gal is hoome and that all parties are happy again.

Champion Ford has had my car for 3 weeks today. Oil pressure guage and temp guage. Temp guage was a connection issue. Erradic oil pressure guage is supposedly the guage and supposedly on back order. I suspected the sending unit, but hooked up to the computer they were getting the proper oil pressure.
