OT: is Corvette seat leather terrible?

I have been in the market for a 2007/08 Vette.

One issue, its seems the quality of the seat leather is really bad.

Ex:

-At the NY Auto show the car on the floor had a drivers seat that had turned greay, cracked and abraded

-A demo at a dealer today with 100 miles had worn thru from gray to beige

-a 2008, yes 2008 had a wrinkled seat from like 1 week of use

Is this normal or is it irrelavnt as you lilely can get OEM seat skins or whole seats for a few hundred?.
 
The GM leather is some hybrid kinda stuff. My C5 wrinkled the first time I sat in it. It does come back to shape to some degree over night or if it is parked in the sun. The C6 seats are a huge improvement over the C5 in terms of comfort, I think the quality of the leather stuff is a bit better too. To me theyare more comfortable than the GT seats. The quality of the leather is not close though.

Seat covers can be had, but they are not super cheap. There are plenty of guys that do custom leather for the corvettes. Try the Corvetteforunm.com or Z06vette.com.
 
A chronic complaint. Supposedly the the '08 will get newer, better leather from a quality suppliers, along with more power, etc.

What the heck is Hybrid leather.... Leather = Bovine, Cows, Bulls etc.

Is Hybrid cross between a cow and what? - Dog (if came from China), Chicken (from Ca.), Pig/ Hog (from NC) or what animal?

Maybe to conform with the green laws they mated recycleable milk jugs with cows..

When it goes in for warranty do they shine it? Sounds like pure old cheap ass crap to me. Sorry for the corvette owners that have this problem.
 
Mikey, you're too much. You don't have to be so litteral.
 
The 2008 Vette will have a full-leather seat option.

Currently only the seating surfaces are leather - this means where your butt/ass goes and where the lower part of your back touches the seatback.

If lack of "quality" leather or lack of a leather option is an issue don't buy the Vette.

Also I would never judge anything based on seeing an interior at a car show. All cars including MB, BMW, Lexus have seats that are discolored/worn after being at a car show and allowing people to sit in the car.
 
Like he said, the backs and seat top are supposed to be real leather. I think is just thinner, from sensitive cows ( thin skined). It is soft as well and that's where I guess the wrinkles come from.
 
My Z06's driver seat wore extremely fast. The passenger seat leather was out of shape as well and it was extremely rarely used. I don't know what it is that makes that particular material wear out so fast, but it does. Those things always really irked me.

I had seat covers in my C5 vert made out of some material similar to neoprene and they were pretty comfortable and they looked good too.
 
The leather used in FGT comes from the foreskins of champion bulls!

The leather in the Vette's comes from steers. There is no such animal as a happy steer!

Boney you are right about the seats. I know I just got one. But the 427 on the C6Z comes from champion bull semen.
 
Whatever it takes to stick you to the seat. Guess you don't even need lap belts in that hot rod :)

No only a small portion of the seat top and back are leather. The rest, majority, is from synthetic material. The synthetic is what stretches and gets out of shape not the leather.

But Bony gave us the definitive answer.

Hey, don't laugh, is my first car, still have it (low mileage-no rust!!). And the 'market' (such as it is) is on the way up!! BJ recent sale at $12,750 and the talk of the show in Florida.

For years, everyone was laughing -- soon museums all over the world will want one!!!!!!!!!!!:lol

We Vega owners used to laugh in the gereral direction of you Pinto owners.

My first (and only) club? "The Vegabonds" Man oh man was my jacket cooool!:lol :lol :lol
