First, the latter question: Neilda came up with a company that has a NEAT "kit" to do 'zactly that. Go to www.lanka.com and Bob's yur uncle!

As to how the chips got there ...'been on a any gravel surface (like a shoulder) and made a tight turn? Small grit & stones stick to those F1 Supercars real easy... as you turned, the tires could'a picked up a small rock & launched it. OR - the darn things could'a just hit from a car straight ahead of you and landed on TOP of the fenders instead of somewhere else. They ALSO could have come from ONCOMING CARS. There's no way to know.
 
Just crossed 7,700 miles and I now know that the best part (okay, maybe second-best part) of driving the GT is that YOU CAN drive the GT. In other words, while it's one of the most beautiful and capable cars ever made, it's NOT an exotic in the sense of being some pansy-ass mechanical ninny with a new glitch (or worse) to fix every two-hundred miles. I've had two oil changes and one door adjustment for a rattle (that was done four months after purchase, and over 15 months ago -- so it obviously wasn't a chronic/recurring issue).

Otherwise -- NOTHING! Just get in it and go!! I used to really like the idea of an Acura NSX because the car was basically a Civic with the right wheels pushing it around and the engine in the proper location. But otherwise it broke the exotic mold by being so damn reliable.

Well, now I can say the Ford GT is an NSX with the correct number of cylinders and the proper lineage (legendary American racing hero).

The car just kicks-ass on so many levels. LOVE IT! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Drive it!! By the way - you should get close to 20 mpg or more. I don't understand "garage queens" - unless you're all about "buff 'n shine" - but that's okay too. It's just that driving is soo much more fun!

Thanks for the great replies guys! I did take the car and had a great trip. A bud made me a killer mix CD of good old stuff I had not heard in years (late 60s and 70s rock) and it was great to listen to on the way home today. The car ran great and I actually did get near 20mpg - I showed incredible restraint with my right food for 98% of the trip...

The other 2% of the trip, I flirted with the magic number...

I can confirm Everett drove the car up here, and yes he did flirt with the magic number. I had the pleasure of driving E's modified car. Compared to my stock GT--HOLY SH**!! I expected moderate improvement. What I experienced was violent acceleration. Wow. Thanks E. I'll see you this week down in Alb.

I think I escaped relatively unscathed on this trip (heard a small object hit the windshield, but can't see anything). My car already has several small stone chips, so any new ones aren't quite like the first few, although they are still undesirable of course. Overall the trip was worthwhile, especially "exploring the envelope" somewhat.
 
The engineers at ford said that the sixth gear is an E gear and that around 80-110 mph in this gear.... you will get around 26 mpg's.. straight from the horses mouth...... swear to the GT gods:cheers
