Ford Styling Studios
Quickdraw -
Thanks for posting that. As a kid, I was always drawing cars and building models. My dream was to work in the Styling studios at Ford one day. In 1957, we took a family trip to visit Ford - toured the Rotunda, saw the assembly line at Dearborn Assy., watched them make steel at the Rouge. Loved seeing those styling mockups at the Rotunda. George Walker, Gene Bordinat, Virgil Exner, Raymond Lowey, Dick Teague, Bill Mitchell....those guys were my heros.
The car in the video that looks like a bullet 'Bird, the
Ford X100 is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn:
I eventually managed to get into Ford's Styling studios, but not as a Stylist, I worked for Body Engineering as a Technical Illustrator. My first job was to go over to Styling and make freehand drawings of all the new cars - talk about a dream job! A cherished part of my early days at Ford when I was "living the dream".
