Kevin, I’m anxious to hear what you think about your Avons- as I told you when we spoke, that really seems to be the way to go. My 20 year old BFGs gotta go!!

Clint, I replaced my Cobra BFGs with 15" Mickey Thompson ET Streets. They are a much superior tire to the previous 2 sets of BFGs I used. My BFGs would never hold a balance so I was constantly taking them to the tire store for rebalancing. Absolutely no problem with the Mickeys in the last 3 years.

Mine came from Shelby with the close relative of the tires that were on the Ford GT. I think they might have been more closely related to what was on the GT500 but they were all in the same "family". They were OK, but just as with the FGT and GT500, they were not cold air/pavement friendly with the threshold being about 50*F. I knew that and it still broke loose going out of the subdivision but the pucker moment was going to work one day when I was taking a left onto the street at work and there was some not-quite-frosty blacktop. It wasn't quite wet it wasn't quite dry, but the tires just let loose. I got a 360* view. No traffic and no curb thank goodness. It was a perfect loop, just not planned.

I am anxious to hear how the Avons transform the ride.

On a related note, I pray Avon survives Goodyear's take-over of Cooper.
.
Mine say Cooper/Avon on the packaging.

I think Goodyear bought Cooper about 3 weeks ago. It will probably be a year or two before we know anything.

Congratulations on your purchase!
I enjoyed my 427AC Cobra for 18 years and finally sold it to make room for my GT and Viper ACR. I still miss that car and consider it the most "fun" car I have owned! Hope you enjoy.

I would also agree that this is the most fun car I own! I’ve just about got her sorted out. Today I installed my new Avon’s (and practiced my safety wire tying skills), shifter bushings, oil change, and corrected a build booboo... someone installed a Right tooth pattern speedo gear when it should have been a Left. You can see the chewed up teeth on the wrong gear. The end result was a really fun drive this afternoon!

I replaced my tires on my Superformance Cobra a couple years ago with the Mickey Thompson tires and they have been great. Can't believe how reasonable they are too.

I found out about the MTs after I bought the Avon’s. It would have been a hard sell on the Avon’s otherwise.

so the Avons have gone up in price I would have liked the Avons but got the mIckeys also. I got the SRs which have a hot rod pattern to them Not crazy about the pattern would prefer the Avons but they perform very well.

I'm trying to decide what to get for my CSX4145 Cobra, too. I had pretty much decided on the Avons. Regarding the Mickeys- just better price and more grip? I like the vintage look of the tread on the Avons.

Looking at the Summit web page, they also have ET Street S/S. They seem to have a little street pattern that may help if out in a sudden downpour. The S/R's look to be more like Hoosiers, great for the dry? Maybe not so for the wet. No experience with either. Currently have Avons.
Thanks for the info.

ya I saw the S/S too not really crazy about the pattern on those and the sizing was slightly different and I obsessed over the exact height of the tire I wanted to get the look right... plus I think they look pretty much like the BF goodrich tires and I already have a set of those mounted on second set of wheels. When I want the race look I put the S/Rs on and when I want a more muted look go with the Bfs...
